Cotto weighed in at 153.6 his last fight. He's not a middleweight.

I do agree that he should vacate his belt. You can't use the "I'm not a MW" excuse to duck the #1 MW while continuing to campaign as the lineal MW champion.

If Cotto beats Canelo, he either retires or fights Mayweather again. GGG is just not on the table, he's not an option. WBC will be hard pressed to turn down a Mayweather vs Cotto II fight in 2016. I would be shocked if Cotto fights GGG, not because of the risk, but because of where Cotto is in his career(The end) and the lack of money and fanbase GGG brings to the table.

I guess you don't get that Cotto and Canelo refuse to sign a guarantee to fight GGG after their fight. If they did sign it, this would not even be a discussion. But neither of them have any interest of getting in the ring with GGG. So why should GGG step aside when he can simply force WBC to strip Cotto of his title? Why should GGG trust the word of a man, Cotto, who has already proven his word is not worth crap? Why should he trust the WBC who have proven that their word is not worth crap? The only thing he can trust is Canelo who has already stated that GGG is a fight for the future and he knows that he will not be fight him any time soon.

But when it's time to speak of how Cotto got the championship, they say he beat an old, injured fighter who had already lost his titles to Martin Murray. But when people want to bring out the "on paper" argument, he's the Lineal MW champion. But then his win over Martinez was a fluke and Golovkin is the consensus MW champion of the division. So yeah, you can't have it both ways, if Cotto is the Lineal MW champion then give his dues and admit it. If you don't think he actually deserves the MW championship then just let it be and see GGG as the champion in the fans eyes. Cotto doesn't have much time left so just suck it up, when he retires GGG can fight some C class fighter for them, or some fighter coming up in weight. Cotto 5'7", 153lbs, too small for GGG.

SMW is Ward's second weight class. SMW would be Golovkin's second weight class.

MW is Golovkin's first weight class. It is Cotto's 4th. Canelo's 3rd (at least).

Golovkin is a coward. He is afraid of technical challenges. He is a protected HBO marketing ploy. Only the truest of HBO nuthuggers like Hougigo and Mitchell Kane are blind to the facts. Pretty sad that with all the balllicking they do, they can't at least get a paycheck for it.

He is taller than Sergey Kovalev

He is fighting at a 172 pound catchweight

Golovkin drops 5 pounds a week out to make middleweight and is basically the same size as Canelo

Ward is afraid of Kovalev. He said he would conquer 175 after the supersix in about 500 interviews then when Kovalev came into the picture he said 175 was a dead division.
