  • Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder Hungers To Become The Face of Boxing

By Jake Donovan - The proof was there to be found in Deontay Wilder’s last ring appearance, as his 12-round landslide win over Bermane Stiverne generated big numbers for pay-cable network Showtime.

It’s showing up again at the box office. His first title defense versus lightly regarded Eric Molina will play to a sold out arena this weekend at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, less than an hour from his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Heavyweights still matter, especially those with unbeaten records and infectious personalities. Wilder is putting that theory to the test, as he sees this weekend as the next step towards his goal of not just ruling the heavyweight division, but carrying the sport on his back. What the ****. You want to be the Influential king pin ala Floyd Mayweather? Then rise to the occasion and at least create an atmosphere of adversity. You have to relinquish some respect to get to the next level. Only way you earn your place as a defining atg heavyweight is if you raise the bar. Raise the bar you gutless son of a b*tch

before he won the world title, everyone called him a bum. if he beats wlad and wins all the belts and becomes super bad ass, all of you are going to deny calling him a bum and will say everyone is ducking him and you guys were all long time fans since he was in the Olympics.

Interesting comment, considering the number of casual fans who (facially) often mistake him for LeBron James.

I´ll just go on the record here: right now Wilder is just a can crusher, but beating Povetkin would make him a legit title holder and #2 HW in the world. Beating Wlad would make him the Baddest Man On The Planet. Good enough?
