Yes, and in a boxing match you hit and not get hit because that is the whole point of the sport to begin with.
If you're in to war of attrition style combat then you should try muay thai/kickboxing.Comment

It's not boxing when theres more running than throwing punches.
I suggest you tune in to Track for a sport where their main objective is to run, not throw punches
This is boxing, they have boxing gloves for a reason.Comment

lmaooo....
I think people have gotten lost a bit with the 'hit and don't get hit' mantra. I don't dispute that phrase holds true. But I do disagree with how it's being used by those who support boxers whose defensive styles are paired up with equally uneventful offensive approaches (aka consisting almost entirely of pot shotting and long jabs) that work together to result in fights that make watching grass grow seem very exciting. I think 'float like a butterfly, sting like a bee' is a lot better - emphasis on the word sting being used as opposed to 'hit'.
This isn't the amateurs. Pro fighters should at least appear to be trying to land telling blows on their opponents.Comment

That's true. The thing is, when he actually lets his hands go for combinations, he can be exciting but the thing is he's content with potshotting and using lateral movement. That's fine and dandy but its not very entertaining to most fans, casual and hardcore.
Guys can be defensive and exciting at the same time. James Toney would slip punches in the pocket and make them pay. He would get Oooooh's for the slip and Aaaaaah's for the counter. lol Most fans can appreciate defense but only when its from within the pocket, slipping and ducking punches, it's the lateral movement that isn't very well received, especially in excess (not fair but its the reality).
Another thing. Boxing has and always will be about punches. Defense is very important but it alone can't win rounds. A fighter can win a round without dodging a single punch but a fighter will never win a round without landing one.Last edited by IFightDirty; 06-10-2015, 01:53 AM.Comment
