Cotto-Canelo in Oct or Nov not September

“They would prefer to go on September 12th, which is of course the weekend of the Mexican Independence Day,” Dan Rafael said via ESPN.com. “That’s the day Canelo would like to go, but that’s also the date when Floyd Mayweather going on his next fight in his last fight of his Showtime contract. The promoters and HBO have said that ‘if this is when Floyd is going, we’re not going to fight that battle. We’re doing with that. Let Floyd do what he wants to do what he wants to do, and we’ll go some other time.’ So they’re going to wait until the official announcement of the Mayweather fight, but they’re looking sometime in October, perhaps in early November.”

truth be told, I can't see a Floyd PPV being bigger than Cotto/Canelo on a Mexican holiday, unless it's Floyd v GGG or Floyd v Khan (with the UK broadcast rights being a big deal).

Cotto-Canelo would likely do more buys than Mayweather's next fight if they went head to head but there's no point diluting the audience

Weather its a "bigger" fight or not. It doesn't matter. Cotto is looking to maximize his earnings and fighting split PPVs is not a good "business" decision.

Canelo fans were the only ones asking for a Mexican date, anyone with a brain knows you don't put competing PPV's on the same night.

u did speak the truth except I don't think any Floyd fight will be bigger than cotto v canelo. BUt fighting on same night will kill both fights.
