I can't picture Golovkin beating Kovalev in a pro fight, ever. Maybe in sparring one guy was just going harder than the other.
I feel Golovkin's plight with the whole Cotto situation but despite being the best MW in the world he's a pretty standard puncher who just has excellent conditioning, power.
Kovalev is on another level. Methodically outboxing Bernard Hopkins and destroying Jean Pascal is a step above finishing off Rubio and Geale. AND showing even scarier power against Rubio-level opponents.
That story could just be made up by a poster. But Dough Fischer talked about how Abel showed him the sparring video of Kovalev/Golovkin, and he confirmed that Golovkin dropped him with a body shot. Sparring is sparring, but that does seem to indicate that his power carries up. Kovalev had just crushed Cleverly for the WBO title so he wasn't rusty or green when it happened.
Like I said, Ward needs 12 rounds to beat Golovkin. Gennady can end Andre anytime. Abraham and Bika showed he can be hurt and Golovkin doesn't allow you to tie him up. Will be an interesting fight.
ya i have heard people talk about how ggg was in fight ready shape and kov had just come back in gym from a very long layoff though
Great fighters that you mentioned. And Steward was a great trainer. But the name of the game is BOXING, not knockout. "Running" as you call it is a part of the sport. Its not a fighter's job to stand there and take punishment. It is, however, a fighter's job to cut the ring off and make the mover trade; and if a fighter can't do that then tough shiz.
I have to ask: Was Willie Pep great? Was Pernell Whitaker great? Are Bernard Hopkins, Charley Burley, and any number of other great defensive fighters not great?
With all do respect Sir, it sounds like maybe you should be spending your time watching tough-man contests and Travellers fighting, instead of whining about a part of the sport that other people do appreciate. And by the way, it couldn't matter less how long you have been watching boxing in terms of the validity of your opinion.
Yes some of those were great fighters.
WHO does the CROWD Scream for and who does the Crowd cheer for when big shots land ? Who excites boxing fans ?
Its the KO artists !
When you witness with yore eyeballs, SONNY LISTON
When you witness George FOREMAN DESTROY Fraizer
How bout Tyson,
compare them to Mayweather and Malinaggi , feather fisted piss balls.
The reason Jr is rich is because people Paid to see him get destroyed, he never mesmerized them with his power, he has with new guys with his skills but old guys are not impressed.
Listen to the crown when GGG fights , listen to the BOO's jr gets.
I went thru the fad of the science of boxing , I know all of that ,been there done that before you were born, loved Clay/Ali, Watched every fight of Duran Hagler Hearns Leonard,
I am sick of chicken runners, the fighters that move me are the killers.
The greatest matchups have been the boxer vs the puncher.
I will take the GAME fighter with the power to Knock you OUT in either hand.
GGG is an ACE in my book, he has boxing skills, he is GAME, he has the POWER, he has everything, he is in a battle with his age, he needs the big fights before he gets to old.
KOVALEV is one mean dude, and he means to take your head off.
If you are excited about runners that pot shot and run again , the go for it, but the most exciting fighters are those that FIGHT and FIGHT TO WIN BIG, to KNOCK YOU OUT !!!!!!!
I can't picture Golovkin beating Kovalev in a pro fight, ever. Maybe in sparring one guy was just going harder than the other.

Imagine Kovalev vs Geale. Come on...
I agree with you.
Pretty obvious actually.
The bold happens often, even from world class fighters.
Boxing is 90% mental.
There are also a number of other reasons to explain what may have happened.
I would NEVER rate a sparring story ahead of common-sense.
Pac gets dished up in sparring by guys who couldnt live with him in a fight.
May Jr is the Ultimate Chicken, its like what JMM said its hard to KO a chicken if all he does is run.
Jr is the master at getting in the ring with those who have issues:
He couldn't beat a one armed Pac , lost 7 to 5
Cotto looked washed up for two years after Margo and Pac got him, then Jr saw an easy payday, well he should fight COTTO NOW .
He will not be able to take that left hook
and Canelo was too green , I pulled for him but saw it futile the moment he didn't attack in round 1
SO mang, two are ready NOW one will be next year and GGG will take JR's HEAD OFF, he is the MAIN CHICKEN CHASING KILLER !
Dude, you are completely shameless !
You just stated that Pacquiao/Canelo/Cotto are killers who will KNOCK YOU OUT..... and then you laid on a pile of silly excuses about why they couldnt knock Mayweather out
Maybe you should have said this.....
" GGG, Cotto , Canelo , PACMAN fight the boxing world should stand still !!!!!
These are Deadly Chicken Chasing Killers that will
KNOCK YOU OUT !!!!!
Oh, except when they fight Mayweather "
And BTW, Pac doesnt knock anybody out now that he is playing by the same rules as everyone else.
