The concept of a catchweight goes way back to the original 8 divisions.

But back then, there was a big difference between each division, and catchweights were not used in title fights, just in exhibition bouts.

The poster you replied to would be more correct if he said this.....

I don't remember anyone using catchweights consistantly to give him an advantage and to disadvantage his opponent until pac.

        And I agree with that.

I tried to tell everyone that manny-weight was a nasty precedent.

Now, we have to deal with Canelo-weight, and Cotto-weight.

Now, it is " normal ", and " accepted ", just coz Pac did it.

Way to go Pac, for diminishing the standards within boxing.

It isn't really a catchweight if it is a non title fight. It is simply a contracted weight.

Pacquiao only used that clause to his advantage in two fights (Cotto and Margarito). Floyd was appalled and called him the catchweight king. Until he fought Canelo of course. Blaming Manny for Cotto and others using it seems very petty and motivated by a grudge.

Pac used blatant weight manipulation in the following fights.....

            Hatton
            Cotto
            Margarito
            Marquez III
            Rios
            Algieri

He aint called the catchweight king for nothing.

LMBO!! Freddie The Joke Coach Roach is always making himself and his fighters look bad.

I get the feeling he kicks himself often over the things he blurts out when he's home alone.
