Why is Cotto-Canelo being billed as the next "Super fight"? Canelo ain't elite.

Cotto has fought the top fighters of his time and had some success, fair enough. But Canelo's biggest wins are against Austin Trout and James Kirkland, neither of whom are near top 10 P4P.

This fight isn't remotely on the level of Mayweather-Pacquiao.

I equate super fights with star power and interest, not elite boxing status.

who claimed it was even remotely close to Mayweather vs Pacquiao?

I think HBO will try to market it like that but it really isn't a super fight. For that you need 2 really great fighters or, like Floyd v Manny, one great fighter in with another HOF'er.

Cotto v Canelo is perhaps the biggest of the "PR/Mexican rivalry" fights other than ODH/Trinidad, but it in no way is a super fight.

But Mayweather fought Canelo... I don't think it matters. It's about who brings the $$$ in large volumes to equal a superfight these days.

Mayweather always picks the right dance partner because he needs them to sell the majority of the tickets. Canelo was gold ticket for him, and now he shall be with Cotto.

No fighters at the moment can get to the level of Mayweather vs. Pac. That said. This is probably the closest fight to it atm.

Now I get what you're saying, but neither guy has ever beaten a p4p guy, not just Canelo. I don't consider either of them elite. Neither has ever reigned over a division or even been considered the man in a division. Even so. This is a fight I'm looking forward to because it should be exciting.

He beat your boy Lara too.

Canelo has a better claim to the top p4p than guys youd want in there (ggg and gonzalez). so get over it, its a super fight.

Respectfully, I think Wlad v wilder, because its a HWT fight, is a lot closer to Floyd/Manny than Cotto/Canelo is.

How could cotto/canelo be a super fight when neither Floyd/cotto, Manny/cotto or Floyd/canelo was?

You're telling me those 3 were not superfights? What's your criteria for super fighter?
