The transformation has been staggering. He used to just troll all fighters and their fans. But now he's actually latched onto some (Mattthysse, Golovkin, Pacquaio) and turned into a fan himsellf so he's catching feelings now.

Cotto-Martinez 350,000 Cotto insisted he was the "a side". lol, must be that lower case a. As you and I know, its all about the opponent with Cotto. Dudes keep talking that "3rd biggest name in the sport", like it means something. You would figure with all these dudes talking about "GGG has 0 ppvs", that Cottos numbers would be nearing a million without the 2 biggest names. You would think that after getting 600,000 with the Margarito rematch, he would easily match that again, because as we are so frequently reminded, "hes the 3rd biggest name in the sport".have you taken a look at cotto's ppv numbers when he was the a-side? underwhelming is the word that comes to mind. ah well i guess its just easier to say he's a huge draw since that is what the status quo has labeled him. we wouldn't want to go against group think now would we?
Instead, we get 300,000.Comment

I didn't want toget into this but I must react when I see an ignorant post like this. The topic was: Who is more popular, right?Data can be interpreted in many ways, and data can be cherry picked to suit the agenda:
# of PPV flops:
Cotto: 3, maybe 4
GGG: zero
# of times knocked OUT:
Cotto: 2
GGG: zero
# of losses:
Cotto: 4
GGG: zero
KO percentage:
Cotto: 75%
GGG: 91%
Olympic history:
Cotto: Eliminated 1st round
GGG: Won Silver medal
Amateur record:
Cotto: 125-23
GGG: 345-5
Everything I stated was fact, but can be interpreted differently, depending on which agenda you are pursuing.
1: It's easy to not have any PPV flops if you didn't fight on PPV yet.
2: It's easy to not get knocked out when your best opponent up to date is Martin Murray. It's harder when you fought the likes of prime Pacquiao or MArgarito with plaster gloves on.
3: Again: It's easier to remain unbeaten against the likes of Geale, Murray and Adama than against the likes of Mayweather or Pacquiao. It's not a knock on Golovkin because I don't think that his levelof opposition is mainly his fault, but these are the facts.
4: Newflash! It's easier to score KO-s against mid tier opponents than against elite opponents and it's also easier to score KO-s in one single weight class than in four different. Let's see if Golovkin goes to lhw or cruiser how many knockouts he will score...
These were widely well known facts too
5: Who the fuck cares about the Olympics? The question was "who is ore popular/is a bigger star. How is the Olympics relevant here?
6: Who the fuck cares about amateur achievements here? We are talking about PROFESSIONAL boxing here and more specifically about who is the bigger name not bout amateur records.
Sorry but your post was just plain ******.Comment

GGG has the bigger upside in my opinion. Miguel Cotto will never be a crossover star but if GGG keeps winning he will be there in a year or less. Everyone I know who has seen him fight wants to see him again.Comment

The comment that I was responding to did exactly that, only they tried to use their misleading comparisons to put Golovkin on parity with Cotto; doubt that you will critique that, but whatever. Looking at your profile picture says enough. You cannot compare gate figures or ratings for a fighter such as Cotto who has been fighting in the US for how many years now? 12? with that of a fighter who has been fighting in the US for 2 years and is just learning to speak the language and has no built in fan base to draw from.
How do you think Cotto would draw in Germany, where GGG fought most of his pro career, after 2 years? Think there are a lot of Puerto Ricans over in Europe? Or maybe Moscow? Think Cotto will ever be invited to headline a fight in Monaco? No, I don't either.
If comparing Golovkin's US numbers to other fighters fighting out of the US is no longer kosher, why still waste the time with comparing Golovkin to anyone but Felix Sturm?Comment
