Catchweights are completely unnecessary, you either accept them or you dont.... you certainly dont get to be picky and apply them when you like, because you have no idea how much the weight will/did affect a certain fighter.
They are completely unnecessary, so obviously are rubbish !
e.g.
All the Cotto fans are saying, so what, he would have beaten him at 160.
Cotto demeaned his own achievement, unnecessarily.
99% of catchweights are used to compromise the opposing fighter..... that is plainly obvious, we can all see it...... so, considering that catchweights are completely unnecessary, they should be abolished.
If you accept catchweights, then give Cotto credit. You dont have the inside knowledge from Team Cotto and Team Geale to determine exactly how much the weight REALLY affected either fighter.
Asshats were arguing with me last week that Cotto is a genuine MW, now he weighs in at 153 LOL.
Also.....
Fighters have always traditionally been required to make the minimum weight.
I can remember years ago Marquez had to put on weight and re-weigh, after his opponent missed weight by more than a division LOL..... Merchant, I think it was, was joking about how Marquez had to fill his pockets with coins to make the higher weight.
