Comments Thread For: Roach: Khan Was Terrible, He'll Never Get Mayweather

Trainer Freddie Roach has serious doubts about Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) actually landing the September 12th date against WBO/WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs).

Khan is said to be the frontrunner to get the match, but he struggled on May 29th when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Chris Algieri - which many saw as an easy opponent after Roach's fighter Manny Pacquiao easily swept through Algieri last year and scored six knockdowns.

I saw the highlights last night and yep he looked terrible, would be surprise if he gets the Mayweather fight based on that performance. Have alway notice Mayweather likes to fight people who are coming off big wins, those big wins tends to fool the casual fans that Mayweather might lose. At the same time I wouldn't be surprise if Khan gets #48 because his team tends to pick people who they see has a lot of weakness and coming off less than favourable fights.

          Agreed!

Watching Chris Algeri walking Khan-man down while landing shots was entertaining on one side. And on the other, watching Khan-man running over the Referee to get out of the way made it hilarious to watch.

True! That was a good fight! Khan did not impress, but it was a good action fight. Floyd has a problem. Garcia didn't look great vs. Peterson, Thurman didn't close the show vs. Guererro, Brook beat a nobody, and Khan barely beat Algeri. I don't see a true PPV worthy opponent for Floyd, except GGG @ 154! Maybe Porter does something spectacular on June 20?

Floyd might pick Khan for Sept since he won but didn't look impressive. Floyd might wanna capitalize on Khan's flaws to beat him & shut up his critics/members here who've been claiming that Khan beats Floyd easy coz of speed etc.

Roach is still in his feelings cause Khan left him.

Since then he never has one good word to say about him.

Before that Khan was the second coming of SRR, according to Roach.

Why should he have anything good to say about him? Khan bolted Roach to deflect blame and try to make him the fall guy for Khan getting train wrecked by Danny Garcia's hook.

Khan did not look good v CA but he won the fight, I had it 8-4, but 7-5 wouldn't be unjust scoring. He may not get the Money fight - he may, we'll all know soon enough - but he is as valid an opponent as any other for Floyd.

No one at 147 has stated a clear case for the Money fight. No one has left his peers behind to be a clear front runner.
