Comments Thread For: WBC: Garcia Expected To Face Postol, Not Malignaggi

The World Boxing Council has not been notified of Danny Garcia's intention to fight Paulie Malignaggi on August 1st as the headline fight of ESPN edition of Premier Boxing Champions.

Garcia has not made a defense of his WBC junior welterweight title since a twelve round decision win over Mauricio Herrera in March 2014. His next two fights, against Rod Salka and Lamont Peterson, were non-title fights that were held above the 140-pound limit A fight with Malignaggi, a former two division champion, would surely take place around the welterweight limit of 147-pounds.

I dig all these boxers ****ing with the alphabet groups lately. **** the alphabet groups.

The cold hard reality is this is a putting asses in seats business & Garcia is putting more asses in seats vs Paulie than this other cat thus Garcia would be smart to go for the money & not give 3% of a lesser purse to fight this other guy.

If you wanna make this a high caliber competitive sport where top guys in each division are constantly fighting each other you can't do it under the current power structure boxing operates under. Thats just the reality.

Danny hasn't seemed the same since Matthysse. Swift won the fight for sure, but I think he left more of himself in the ring that night.

That said, he has made some good money and doesn't need a difficult career, so who knows?

Agreed. Props to Garcia for having the guts to take a tough fight at junior welterweight before he goes to welterweight.

In other words, the sanctioning fee check from Garcia/Peterson must've cleared.
