Comments Thread For: Wilder Feels He Can Become Bigger Than Mayweather

The Olympic bronze medal winner captured his world title in January with a twelve round decision over dangerous Bermane Stiverne at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He returns on June 13th in his first world title defense, against Eric Molina. The homecoming event is nearly sold out with 8,500 fans expected in Wilder's backyard of Birmingham, Alabama.

If he beats Povetkin, Fury and klitschko then he could.

He's already bigger in terms of height and weight.
      That's where it ends though

At least he can hold his head high knowing his pecker is bigger than Floyd's.

You have to have that "bull mentality", but a guy that's 6'7 and only 215 pounds isn't touching a legacy like that--not even if he stops fighting and moves for 12 rounds. He'll be fun to watch for a while, as he's progressing rather nicely (I didn't expect him to do so well against Stiverne). But you look at a guy like Lennox Lewis--still a wildly underrated heavy, against even a Deontay in his probable prime, and Lennox rocks him all night long--probably in 6.

The heavyweight division always had the brightest spotlight in boxing history. So, it wouldn't surprise me if the popularity of Wilder increase a lot. Otherwise, I hate his personality, I don't know why he thinks that's attractive for the people.

An undefeated American heavyweight champion would definitely be a lot more popular than a welterweight. People love heavyweights

If he wants to be bigger than Mayweather, he should choose better opponents than Molina.
