I did a lot of research in to the affects that boxing has on the brain. After a good few years of fighting I recognized far too many of the things that were being spoken of in the book.

Amateur boxing, statistically speaking is considered a very safe sport. And it is. It's a rough sport but the officials main concern is the safety of the kids, and they do a good job.

The pros are a meat grinder in too many cases.
What area of research do you specialise in? I like immunology personally.

There are people in this site that have never boxed or even fought and have brain damage. Just look at some of the posts and it self explanatory

I was specializing my research in the Pugilistic Pursuit, Detroit. I learned about it first hand.

I followed that up with research in to many books after I left fighting for good. Find a book called 'Beyond the Ring' if you want to learn about the affects of boxing for lengthly periods of time.

Boxing as a hole needs to get rid of horse hair gloves. If they do that all the deaths and serious head injurys will stop. Its as simple as that.

Sigh.... The material in the gloves has very little bearing on the brain getting bounced off the wall of the skull. The material affects the puncher's hand and the "sting" the opponent feels more than anything. 8oz of foam vs 8oz of horse hair is not going to make much difference in terms of the concussive impact on the skull.

                  Is that you Floyd?

People have been killed by foam gloves too moron, boxing is dangerous, every time someone gets punched in the head they lose brain cells.

It is a sport that normally ends badly for the long time participants, especially the guys that have pro careers.

People have to realize that this sport isnt lawn bowls, if you dont like watching people getting hurt then you shouldnt be watching.

No need to name call im just saying 90% of all deaths and serious head injurys in the ring has been caused by horse hair gloves. If boxing gets rid of those flimsy ass gloves the death and serious head injury rate will go down dramatically.
