Hard to critique such a dominant performance but Brook still has some horrible flaws, I seriously think he needs a new trainer. I've seen no improvement in years.
He throws the jab from too close, he will eat a solid short counter over that he don't see coming against a classier operator.
Brings it back too low at times as well.
He never finishes with the left hook and often overreaches with the straight right and leaves it just hanging out there.
He is very good but clearly needs work and a little polishing.
It went as expected but it wasn't a great performance. He might not, probably won't get away with such mistakes against a better operator than the small, extremely limited one punch at a time Gavin.
Brook's right. It's getting boring now. Khan and Brook don't need each other, there's plenty of big fights for both. I was impressed with Kell, he showed things that I hadn't seen from him before. I would favour him over everyone at WW except for Mayweather and maybe Pacquiao
A copy-paste of my facebook comment about the fight:
I like Brook and I love his combinations but he wasn't looking impressive tonight up the 5th round, I see all the holes Mayweather and even this version of Pacquiao could use against him (even though before tonight I tought the same thing as Anthony - I was favoring Brook against May 2015 Pacquiao) with changing angles, footwork and counter punching, Gavin didn't do much but he countered him many times. I liked Brook's combinations when he was having Gavin on the ropes, liked how he use his right uppercut and was even doubling, trippling and quadroupling his right hand, which is not so common thing to do in boxing... as we all know he has a very good jab, on the other hand he was getting countered many times while trowing it tonight.

I think it was Brook being lacklustre more than anything. Frankie Gavin is not really a guy to look good against anyway.
Brook clearly wasn't really up for this, and his performances kind of turn out like this when he's not up for it.
Regarding improvement, I think he's made some great strides if you look at him a couple of years back
As for Gavin he needs to firstly move down to 140 but even then he isn't going to be world champion material. He is just so limited and has literally two shots in his entire arsenal. He has questionable heart - what I mean by that is when he gets tagged you can see he is doubting himself and questioning whether he wants to go on, he losses heart way too quick. He just seemed happy tonight to of fought for a world title. There was no urgency, he didn't go out on his shield. Not once did he attempt to put a combination together, press the action or do anything but back peddle.
He has zero power, no inside game or workrate. He is frankly horrible, unbearable to watch.
Its hard to see where he goes from here but WW is a no go for him. They're way too big and strong.
People talk about him being skilled based purely on him overachieving in the amateurs. Harsh reality is he isn't particularly skilled at all.
He has some basic footwork and a basic one-two.
He is a very basic, average amateur styled southpaw whose bog standard approach does not translate well to the pros at all. That U.K amateur style never has worked well in the pros and never will.

Exactly! It reminds me of how I critiqued Thurman, who I also like, but I was able to see things he did against Guerrero that he would get punished for against an high class opponent, like overloading his punches letting his hands travel a long distance before landing, or taking a long time between planting his feet and launching punches... both things oppening him for counters.
