Last time I checked middle weight is 155 to 160 being the weights limit. Unfortuantely boxing is a buisness/job nowadays so don't understand the hate for catchweights. When geale and Martinez sign on to fight cotto, cotto beign the a side he gets to call the shots, when cotto fought pac, he was the b side and had to drop to 145 cause it was more lucrative fight and a bigger paycheck. Going into that fight with an inexperience corner cotto knew he was f*****! But he still did it for the opportunity and the check. This is a combat sport so I dunno why all the complaining. So geale has to drop couple pounds to fight cotto at middle weight. What's the big deal? He ain't complaining cause he gettin paid so again Wuad the problem.. He's fighting cotto in between 155 and 160 which is middleweight.. Hell i weigh a solid 190 pounds if I have to go to 140 to fight for 6,7 digit paycheck I do it in a heart beat I don't care if I get ko!!! Marvin hagler even said that about a fight postponed I think it tommy Hearn said he hurt his pinky, hagler said man for a million dollars I chop off my pinky

If you beat the man, you're the man. Cotto beat the best 160 pounder. Since he's the man, he makes his demands. Cotto walks around at 160-165. Fighters usually fight 15-20 pounds below their walk around weight. The fact that cotto is the middleweight champ of the world it's remarkable. Even with the cw, He's fighting guys that outweight him 10-15 pounds on fight night. Instead of bashing the dude, give him credit for fighting at a weight class he clearly has a massive disadvantage in

Having said that boxing is a combat sport, stop the complaining and do what you have to get paid, boxing is an art but also a job, and you do what you have to to get paid. If you don't wanna get paid and don't wanna drop down couple pounds to fight for titles or glory or what ever u fighting for well don't sign the contract.. To many prima donnas now Adays in boxing and complaining and all that s***! Is boxing not basket ball.. That's why I can sit down and re watch an Alexis arguello fighting pryor, or Gomez vs sanchez... Them times were cool no bs everybody fought everybody no fuxkingb, even the fans in them times were better.. Now everybody wants to make excuses for fighters specially if as a fan your fighter loses... Just let them fight and stop all the complaining

Catchweights have been used since the back in the day.....aint nothin different than what Pac did(Cotto, Margarito) than what Floyd did(Canelo, Marquez)

the fact is that 155-160lbs is middleweight. Nobody HAS to weigh the middleweight LIMIT of 160 in order for it to be a middleweight fight.

I hear what you are saying though, i agree a catchweight fight shouldnt have title implications, but boxing is all about the money now-a-days

No, I will not. But I will give him credit when he stands up like a man and admits he does not belong in that weight class and vacates his title and moves back down. No one is forcing him to remain at MW.

And nobody should have to accept a catchweight to have a middleweight title fight either. If the champion can only make 156 while the challenger can come in at 160, that is the champion's problem. The division weight limit has not been violated and the fight should go on.

                    Catchweights,lawdy lawdy here we go!
As long as the catchweight is within the divisional limit and the opponent is in that particular division, im good as long as they both make weight. I think catchweights are acceptable when the agreed upon weight is acceptable to both fighters. As for you "fight night weight" enthusiasts, in the event you find urself discussing fight night weights, ur guy doesnt belong in the division.
