There's a big difference between Pacquiao making excuses for his own loss and Cotto's fans making "excuses" for Cotto's loss. Cotto didn't make the excuses.

Contrast Pacquiao's response to his loss with Sergio's response to his loss against Cotto. Sergio manned up by not complaining about his injuries in the immediate aftermath of a humiliating loss. If Pacquiao had taken his loss without complaining and then had his surgery, the boxing community would be MUCH MORE SYMPATHETIC toward Pacquiao and would be more eager for a rematch.

Pac should have taken his loss without complaining, had his surgery, and then let Top Rank leak the fact that he just had surgery. At least Pac wouldn't have looked like a sore loser that way.
