I feel the same way about Floyd and his titles at 154 and Ward and his SMW title.

I think attitudes such as Cotto thinking he is above the sport, damage boxing and are a major reason why boxing is a fringe sport today and will remain so. There is no other sport where this sort of crap is permitted to go on.
All reasonable points, but I was primarily focused on whether and to what extent what Cotto is doing right now will impact his entry into the HoF. My empathy with GGG fans was not germane to that point. I stand by what I've already said on the HoF point and won't repeat myself here. If Cotto held the belt hostage for another year, it might be a different story.

I don't think Cotto's attitude (or attitudes like Cotto's) have too much to do with why boxing is a fringe sport. I think boxing is primarly a fringe sport because it is viscerally brutal in a way that other contact sports (MMA excepted) are not. Sure, there are secondary factors too, but I don't think occasional ducking figures quite so prominently in the fringe equation.

I would like some clarification for this statement.

So what is it exactly that Cotto isn't doing that are "abiding by the terms of the championship contract"?

Cuz is the WBC who granted him the voluntary and his next fight to be with canelo and then he has to fight GGG.

So why all this hate for Cotto who is only doing what the WBC is allowing him to do?

It's really not that ridiculous that Cotto would get a lighter foe after beating Sergio (whether he was shot or not). I've all along thought Cotto should get a "filler" fight to some extent, and then face Canelo later this year. Then GGG early next 2016. But I'll be d*mned if Cotto flat out ducks both of them for the foreseeable future

Cotto the "middleweight lineal champ" is afraid to take on Golovkin. I've always respected Cotto who seems to rarely take on soft opponents but at this point, he needs to man up and fight Canelo or GGG.

Ward has not defended his SMW title for over 18 months and should be stripped. When was the last time Floyd defended his 154 title? He should be stripped but will soon be vacating them so that is fine with me.

WBC have only granted Cotto permission to fight Canelo IF both he and Canelo both sign a guarantee that the winner fights GGG AND IF GGG agrees to step aside. As of yet, GGG has not agreed and no guarantee has been signed. This has been directly stated by Sulaiman and repeated by Loeffler. If such a guarantee is not given, along with other considerations, Golovkin will force Cotto to be stripped of the title. Do you wish me to post the video of the Monroe post fight press conference again? Or the one of Sulaiman stating the situation? I will gladly do so.

As a champion title holder, Cotto is obliged to abide by his mandatory defense after ONE voluntary defense. That voluntary defense is against Geale, he needs special permission for a second one against Canelo, a fighter who does not even qualify for a middleweight title shot.

Canelo does not even belong in the middleweight title discussion. If he wants to fight Cotto, they can do it at 154. Canelo has done nothing to deserve a middleweight title shot. Let them fight it out for one of the titles Floyd will be vacating at 154 instead.

I missed out "has" he improved. Regardless, he must have learnt something from fighting Lara and Kirkland.

I was thinking the same as well. As long as canelo doesn't start bitching about the "mexican date" in september that cotto-canelo.
