I think attitudes such as Cotto thinking he is above the sport, damage boxing and are a major reason why boxing is a fringe sport today and will remain so. There is no other sport where this sort of crap is permitted to go on.
I don't think Cotto's attitude (or attitudes like Cotto's) have too much to do with why boxing is a fringe sport. I think boxing is primarly a fringe sport because it is viscerally brutal in a way that other contact sports (MMA excepted) are not. Sure, there are secondary factors too, but I don't think occasional ducking figures quite so prominently in the fringe equation.

Cuz is the WBC who granted him the voluntary and his next fight to be with canelo and then he has to fight GGG.
So why all this hate for Cotto who is only doing what the WBC is allowing him to do?

Cotto the "middleweight lineal champ" is afraid to take on Golovkin. I've always respected Cotto who seems to rarely take on soft opponents but at this point, he needs to man up and fight Canelo or GGG.

As a champion title holder, Cotto is obliged to abide by his mandatory defense after ONE voluntary defense. That voluntary defense is against Geale, he needs special permission for a second one against Canelo, a fighter who does not even qualify for a middleweight title shot.

Canelo does not even belong in the middleweight title discussion. If he wants to fight Cotto, they can do it at 154. Canelo has done nothing to deserve a middleweight title shot. Let them fight it out for one of the titles Floyd will be vacating at 154 instead.
