The Great GGG Hype Train

Could not have said it any better, due to some people being clueless and annoying its made me sound like i hate Golovkin or dislike him when really i like his abilities just think there blown well out of proportionJust because I think he's way over hyped, does not mean I am not a fan. GGG is an exciting fighter who has great and accurate power. His fights are going to be exciting and I want to see him in with some top competition soon.
While I think Canelo, Cotto, Froch, and Ward are all better boxers than GGG, he definitely is going to make any of those fights exciting and he has a chance to win each (maybe no chance against Ward).
This is what is tough about trying to be an objective fan though, most of the critics in this thread probably like GGG, but we're going to find our self sounding like we don't just to try to off set the people who are way over blowing his achievements in the ring so far. The guy simply doesn't have a top 10 P4P resume yet, he's overrated and it's a huge hype machine.\
But why wouldn't HBO and other boxing players hype him? He's a marketable fighter and exaggerating him can only make everyone involved more money. Maybe he is a killer, but he just hasn't been in with enough good competition to prove it to me. So I have to go by the eye test (which is an educated guess at best). GGG is slow of foot with very little head movement. But GGG has excellent form and is a very accurate and hard puncher who throws combinations well. He doesn't have a lot of defense, but he hasn't needed it yet. I think any boxer who can move decently will give him trouble, as well as any boxer with real KO power and fast hands. Cotto moves very well and has the power to stop GGG, but that is a very close fight IMO. Canelo has better hands than GGG, but will also get hit a lot, that could be a classic, but I'm not sure GGG can take the shots Canelo will land. Froch is also a good match up. Ward will destroy GGG.
I think if GGG steps up and fights some top guys in his next 5 or 6 fights he will lose a couple fights. Maybe he'll prove me wrong though.Comment

good post. He's beaten plenty of top ten guys. Knocked out guys who had never been KOd before. Just because they're not names you recognize doesn't mean they aren't any good.
More to that he's peers recognize the talent he has. If he was bum status or hype, then guys would be lining up to take his crown. However that doesn't see to be happening.
whatever point you were trying to make is null and void. you don't even know what you are watching when it comes to boxing. Or, have you boxed professionally? You've done so well as a prizefighter that these jabronies don't pass your eye test? Pfft
GGG isn't over-hyped, but over-discussed. He appears to pass the eye test looking at nearly all of his televised professional fights. One thing I notice is that on this board when discussing GGG, no one comments on his stylistic change when he started training with Abel. Golovkin used to be a counter-puncher with solid defensive skills.Comment

I'm not impressed by watching GGG beat fighters in a dead division.
If you don't like it sue me.Comment

You are right about one thing - Cotto needs GGG like a hole in the head, Canelo too. As things stand right now, at 160, I seriously believe that Golovkin could beat them both, one after the other, on the same night. That's how good he is at MW, his natural division.
As for his age, he's just turned 33, which would have been over the hill in previous eras, but not nowadays. Like Froch and BHop, GGG looks after himself and lives a clean, healthy life, even when he isn't training for a fight.
BHop is a one-off, but GGG wouldn't need to carry on fighting till he's 50 to achieve his ambitions. 37/38, the same as Froch, would be plenty long enough, and I don't see any reason why he couldn't do that.Comment
