Comments Thread For: James DeGale: Andre Ward is Not Going To Fight Me

IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (21-1, 14KOs) is not expecting a battle of Olympic gold medal winners with WBA champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs).

DeGale captured the vacant IBF title with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Andre Dirrell in a Premier Boxing Champions televised main event from Boston. He became the first boxing in British history to win a gold medal in the Olympics and then moved on to win a world title as a professional.

The funny thing is I tend to agree. I think he might go the Mayweather route, the route of least resistance. Rack up wins against B level fighters * Maidana, Guerrero, Ortiz, washed up Cotto and Mosley * and the be viewed as the next boxing king making exuberant demands (and who knows he might just walk with Buble to the ring) trying to appease the white public.

I like DeGale but Andre Ward isn't Andre Dirrell or Gennady Golovkin...we are talking a different level of boxer.

After all, there are levels to this shit.

DeGale showed a nice jab last night, stepping in with it and pushing Dirrel back with it and he has good upper body movement plus Ward is not going to keep his hands down like Dirrell did in the 2nd record.

But I also can't see him troubling Ward in any way. Ward is technically far superior, his foot work will see him get in and out with ease against DeGale's very wide stance and DeGale's low work rate suggests he won't be able to out work Ward.

Ward is also much, MUCH better on the inside than DeGale.

Ward is a whole different kettle of fish. Degale is too wide and his lapses much too long, or stamina too ****. Whatever it is that always stops him from winning a fight outright.

Ward would win easily because of those mistakes.

After watching James he is definitely a smart skilled fighter. There are levels to skill and Ward is at a higher rung than Degale.
