Comments Thread For: DeGale Will Return in October in London, Says Hearn

According to promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports, IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (21-1, 14KOs) will make the first defense of his title on a date in October in a venue in London.

DeGale traveled over to America to capture the vacant IBF title with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Andre Dirrell in a Premier Boxing Champions televised main event from Boston. He became the first boxing in British history to win a gold medal in the Olympics and then moved on to win a world title as a professional.

It is going to be a get rich easy defense. Sounds a bit ambitious, but if they can get Felix Sturm to travel it'd would be something else.

From what I've read elsewhere on bnews24, Hearn is looking at Kessler or Bute for DeGale's next opponent. That would be a total farce. Kessler is retired and Bute may as well be.

It's going to be a homecoming fight and a well deserved one at that. You're a Golovkin fan but you're talking about the likes of Kessler and Bute being "farces"

Either of them would be the best win on GGG's resume

Kessler wouldn't have been a bad fight for DeGale before last night. But Kessler hasn't fought for two years and shouldn't be challenging for a world title.

Nope but he's a name and known in the UK so ticks all the boxes. This was never going to be a mega fight. More like a tune-up and people were pushing for Ward to face Kessler as tune-up recently.

It will be a pretty non inspiring journeyman or 'has been' for a payday.

Matchroom are going to milk the Degale cow as they are Brook.

As long as Degale fights either Froch, Groves or Ward within 12 months I'm happy.

Why do people act like UK boxers are the only ones that do this?

When Shawn Porter won his world title - who did he fight next? A faded, shot Paulie as a voluntary cos he didn't want to go straight into the Brook fight.

Anthony Dirrell tried to cherry pick Badou Jack which went wrong but it was still supposed to be an easy defence before he took on Groves.

Uh...which toilet attendant is Deontay Wilder fighting in his first defence again?

DeGale has earned a homecoming fight having gone to America and beaten one of their most talented boxers.

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

Seriously, I worry about your compulsive fan boyism sometimes.
