How you conduct yourself as an individual will trump how people perceive you based on your race. Ali antagonized fans with his talk all the time, but he also carried himself with dignity & respect and ultimately people of all races across the country & world respected and admired him. Floyd acts like a punk. Outside his ability to win in the ring, there's nothing to admire because he behaves like a spoiled child.Comment

Floyd literally and deliberately markets himself as a villain. He wants to be hated and he gets what he wants. You think he would have made that much money through his boxing style? LOL.... How can people not understand that?
American fans are still a bit dodgy though. They seem like flavour of the month fans. If a guy loses, they'll drop him like a bad habit. I remember some fat yank recreational skier was telling me that Shawn Porter was going to be the next Tyson and KO Floyd.....he's gone awful quiet on that since.Comment

Andre Ward, religious family man that is one of the most hated boxers in the sport.
Gary Russell. Humble fighter who is actually very quiet in person is hated.
Willie Monroe had to close his Instagram because of racist hate filled messages.
Boxing is an extremely racist sport.Comment

Let's look at Timothy Bradley. Religious family man that gets booed and racist death threats thrown at him over a decision.

Boxing is an extremely racist sport.
If Floyd were a religious family man they'd still hate his guys.
Ali was despised when he was an active fighter.
What's really odd is...
MANY of the biggest racial haters aren't even whiteComment

It's funny how Nate doesn't talk about how Floyd embrasses the black community by the way he acts, how Floyd promotes negative black stereotypes, how Floyd is looked up by black getto youth and making them think it's alright to be an ignorant fool. Floyd should be out their promoting education and family values but the lil $h!t doesnt. Why doesn't Nate talk about how if a black man get an education he would be consider a sell out by the same getto trash that looks up to Floyd. Why wouldn't people hate Floyd the guy is a dip $h!t and is not acting like many idiots on this site think. Just look back when Floyd was in his early career he was well liked and it wasn't unt the odlh fight that money changed him to the trash he is today. just look at a lot of these post bunch of ignorant larrys trying to justify floyds actions it's pathetic.Comment

They support their own, be that Black as Bruno,White as Hatton,or Brown as Hamed.
Americans can't do that.
If Floyd's name were Floyd Martinez or Floyd Morinovic,he'd be a National hero, despite how brash and ****y he is.
He ex would be called a lying ***** or completely ignore or discredited by the media.
Floyd has to market himself as a villian.
He's not a gold medalist..and he's not hispanic.
He wasnt going to get any support as a good guy.
Haters pay better than lovers.
Ali knows this
So does Mayweather and Broner.
If Crawford or Thurman, slapped a patron at a strip club with a bag of money, the ratings for their next fight would double.
Smart,Black fighters play the bag guy role, because America will not embrace the good guy, despite claims to the contrary.
De La Hoya's dirty was swept under the rug by the US media.
Same with Pacman.
THEY can play the good guy and get rich.Comment

There is rascism in boxing, there is reverse rascism, and everything else that exists in society exists in boxing. Part of what makes boxing so compelling is that its narrative is a dramatization of the cultural narratives represented by the boxers who participate in the sport. The new upcomers on the racial ladder of acceptance climb in the ring as their ilk try to climb society's ladder.
But boxing is more than a sport....it is a sport and it is also fighting. It should be noted that we, the people, "fight" rascism. So while it took Jackie Robinson...a warrior, to be vigorous enough, good enough, tough enough and smart enough to learn how to fight rascism hitting a white ball to white players, it was always accepted that the struggle in society had parity with the struggle guys like Jack Johnson, Joe Louis and Ali had when entering the ring.
MMA is not the same. When the Gracies came to this country what a lot of people do not realize is that in Brazil, while the fights were open to all, if you wanted to learn brazilian Jiu Jitsu you had to have cash, and be upper middle class, to rich to afford the lessons. That translates here as well...MMA training takes quite a bit of cash and at its roots MMA is really a white middle class, to upper middle class endevour. MMA guys find themselves having to take instruction in brazilian JJ, wrestling, boxing, Thai boxing, and to be able to condition oneself at a well equipped facility.
So when Cambell says boxing has rascism in it one might want to ask him if he would throw the baby out with the bathwater....Boxing has those attitudes precisely because it is a way for boxers to transcend race and in repeating the drama of fighting rascist attitudes, over and over again, boxing demonstrates how one of any race can be a champion in the ring.Comment

Yes, boxing has always been about good versus evil and often the boxer of color get the honor of being labeled evil. There is a reason that 2 of the most hated boxers (for different reasons) is/was Mayweather and Ali.
However, most sports have a tendency to inject race. For some reason whenever the majority of athletes on a team or the prominent star of particular sport is black the hate is usually stronger. Duke players are described as studious and smart while Michigan's Fab Five was described as thugs. Serena Williams get way more (negative) press for throwing a tantrum during a game than she gets praise for winning a major title for the umpteenth time with relative ease. I don't know if Nate Campbell is the best person to convey this message but he's not too far off. Btw, if this is playing the race card, then it's a winning hand.Comment
