Comments Thread For: Povetkin-Perez: BoxingScene.com's Staff Predictions

Alexander Povetkin seeks another shot at heavyweight glory, while Mike Perez is given one more chance to crack into the upper echelon of boxing’s most historically storied division. The two contenders collide Friday evening in Moscow, Russia. The winner gets a crack at unbeaten heavyweight titlist Deontay Wilder.

Povetkin (28-1, 20KOs) suffered his lone career loss at the hands of World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko more than 18 months ago, having rebounded with two straight wins. The former titlist has remained near the top of the division, on the strength of knockout wins over Manuel Charr and Carlos Takam in a strong 2014 campaign.

When a whole crew of "writers" pick unanimously, it's reasonable to go the other way. Perez wins.

Perez is an awesome HW boxer and I think he beats most boxers historically.

I pick Povetkin mate, on "other" merits than what writers think, but acknowledge Perez's chances..

I had to comment cause I loved the logic behind your post, free thinking and usually you'd be on the right track LOL.

Lol. You shouldn't allow other people to influence your opinions like that.

Before I read those predictions I thought that Povetkin's greater stamina would be the key factor in this fight and I'm not going to let those so called experts talk me out of that. What do they know anyway?

My pick is still Povetkin by UD or late stoppage when Perez fades after a fast start.

povetkin by decision is likely, he's not too big a puncher and perez fitness is questionable. Huck survived povetkin and he's a cruiser. Charrs just a blob, he couldnt even beat duhaupus who looks like he'd probably lose to derrick rossy wide or even lose to sprott or skelton in the first round or two of prizefighter.
