Is Freddie Roach the most overrated trainer of all time?

Honestly the joke coach gets too much credit,
He has been lucky he got to train some great fighters like Pacquiao, Khan and JCC jr (in recent years.)

No doubt Freddie is great at preparing his guys for fights but in terms of being a good strategist where do you think he stands?

It seems like on fight night if things don't go his way their is no plan B. Most recently against TBE, they had absolutely no plan B and Manny looked frustrated.

    What your thoughts?

I don't think so at all. You can say what you want about gameplans but ultimately it's up to the fighter to go out and perform/implement the strategy. If Pac's lame excuse is real, he couldn't perform it, simple as that.

Let's not forget it was Roach who trained Oscar Dela Hoya for only 1 fight and that was against Floyd and Oscar was able to get a decision on 1 judge despite being faded already in his career and Jr. in his prime.

I think too many fighters believe Roach is a miracle coach and by switching to him it means automatic success and that is so far from the truth. They need to continue putting in their work in the gym and outside the gym to get the results. Roach's strategies and gameplans can only take you so far based on your own limitations.

All these fighters that went to Roach just to collect in on Pac's success were misguided.

I can't recall ever seeing a very good defensive fighter who was trained by Roach.

Yeah, he couldn't hold Senior and Rogers jockstrap. Collectively those two ATG trainers have what? 2 wins w/o Floyd? How many world champions have Freddie trained? Like 20?

Yiure absolutely right man. All hail the Mayweathers.

He's done a lot of good work with the fighters he used to train and the fighters he's currently training. I dont understand the hate coming form fan boys on this site. People on this site love to di.ck ride fighters, their trainers, crews, lifestyle and whatever else. Its hilarious. people need to ease back and just enjoy the sport. because the 3 biggest fanboy clubs on this site (may, pac & cotto) are nearing the end of their careers. whats going to happen to you when theyre gone?

Pacquiao MADE Roach. I agree that he's superbly overrated because of that.

Oscar De La Hoya said Mayweather Sr. was a better trainer than Freddie Roach actually.

Roach hasn't built anyone from the Ground up. Look at Zou Shiming, He looks like Crap. That really is his chance to build someone up. Shiming is a bum. If you aren't able to build a fighter from the Ground up, Then you are not that good of a trainer. Freddie Roach is definitely overrated. He has definitely overachieved. But he has done that with fighters who he acquired as if they were a free agent in another sport.

Nope, he's a top 3 trainer currently so I wouldn't call him overrated at all.
