Is he actually a decorated amateur? I could usually find wikipedia entries for decorated amateur with a list of their achievements, but I can't find jack squat on this guy.

I couldn't find much either. As he's a former Cuban amateur (?), I gotta' take notice.

I watched his fight vs Frank Paines (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc8dYYg30IM) when he was 7-0. He looked good. Nice combos. Seems to move well. Has the killer instinct apparently. Throws like he wants to hurt the guy. Leaned a little over the front foot more than may be prudent and his left was a little low when he throws the right sometimes, but I am not the most knowledgable observer and maybe I'm nitpicking or just plain wrong.

Would be interesting to hear from the hardcore boxing heads around here.

What's the early verdict on this guy?

He is a decent Cuban prospect had a good amateur background, not a stand out like Rigo, Lara, Gamboa & so forth but a very respectable one.
Doubt he is anywhere ready for such a step up but he is a lot better than Paul Smith and Mohammedi.

Solid fighter who does the basics well albeit a little slow. I'd like to see him in particular against Ward.

He isn't boring. He is one of the more aggressive Cubans like Perez. Fun fighter too watch.
