Golovkin is NOT an inside fighter!

People have the misconception that GGG is an inside fighter but that is false, he does his best work from mid range. He is a mid range fighter like Lucas Matthysse who has the power to do well and have success on the inside but their strength is in the mid range where they can get more leverage and snap into their punches. Brandon Rios is an actual inside fighter who does his work throwing those close range uppercuts.

Willie Monroe post fight said he had success when he fought on the inside and also picked Canelo over GGG, but GGG over Cotto. I personally feel GGG beats anyone between 154-160.

    Correctamundo.

    As Jules Winnfield would say.

Lucas is much better inside and does have an inside gams imo. Seems to be cagier and parries and catches punches better inside.

He's best when his opponent is trying to back away it seems, his whole style is based on seek and destroy. He looks a bit confused when his opponent stands their ground

So far nobody's abused Golovkin on the inside to find out how he'd respond. Golovkin had no respect for Monroe's power what so ever.

Fortunately for G there are no good really inside fighters from 154-160.

If Hopkins was still around at the weight he could have struggled, Ward would obviously be a difficult opponent at 168 in that respect too.

This is why he will beat Mayweather. Mayweather can't hit hard enough to back him off. Plus, you can't throw 300 punches in a 12 round fight and beat a guy like this.

Correct. He likes keeping guys at the end of his punches, preferably along the ropes, and that's at mid range. He looked tentative on the inside and that's where Monroe did his best work.

Thing is there really isnt any reason for him to be bad on the inside. The same combo's he uses against guys on the ropes will still work, though his defence needs to be tighter. It's more of a psychological thing imo. His CPU malfunctions a little bit when his opponents stands to fight.

apart from one or two moments in round four, i thought golovkin was deflecting almost everything monroe jr threw at him on the inside
