Does he purposely let them hit him? Of course not. I do believe though at certain points, either due to frustration, or just pure warrior mentality, he forgets about defense and just wants to be more offensively inclined.

When he thinks about defense, like in the first couple rounds against Monroe, nothing was hitting him except a few stray jabs. After he hurt Monroe and got hungry, he started getting tagged.

He can be defensively responsable but he eats more punches when he tries to take his opponent's head off "to give the fans a big drama show".

Voted wrong because of the phrasing of the question. Regardless, last night Golovkin proved to be a lot slower than I though he was. He previously displayed reasonable counter-punching but he was a complete mess in that regard last night. He just paused when hit and often swung at the air because Monroe was gone before the counter came. Imagine a guy with decent stick-and-move abilities in there last night. He looks brilliant against club fighters but I am still concerned about his ability to deal with top competition. The way he was getting hit last night, I think Cotto would have taken him out. Hopefully Genady tighten it up a bit before taking the next step.
