Valero couldn't handle his girl not doing what he wanted, so when faced with a great fighter who can truly fight back not obliging him, how on Earth do you expect him to not fall apart?

Valero is a bully, and Floyd is not going to get done by that sort of fighter because Floyd while a boxer doesn't fight scared (he will get in close to the danger).
