      Here's a pic of the 154lbs division:

Andrade is skilled, but with Sho..so that's out for Canelo, Charlo's are also with Sho but not ready for a fight of this magnitude IMO, rest of the guys Canelo has already beat. Kirkland was a good pick for Canelo, even more so after May2, the better guys could have got Canelo...but blame it on the networks.
Manny knew he was down on the cards (if you listen to Roach) and never picked up the pace. He was content to lose without getting KO'd again so he decided not to punch anymore, same as Canelo, except Canelo did it for 12 rounds and Manny 9.

Please put up a list of 160lbers. Let's see if there are any opponents there. Also, explain Kirkland's ranking?

Cotto v Canelo should be happening in June IMO. Instead of going to MSG to fight, Canelo wants to be the "star" and will not fight Cotto in NYC. Instead, they rushed to make the Kirkland fight instead of waiting.

Yes, that is the networks fault for not forcing a fighter it has signed into the best fight. It is also the network's fault that it approved someone like Kirkland as an opponent for Canelo at this time.

I understand they want to boost his star power and a huge KO win like this advances that. but as a boxing fan, do you want to see Canelo like this or do you want to see him in with someone that could actually beat him?

Thats the problem though. Both are looked at as the best of this era yet both are looked down upon now because of their lackluster sparring session which was SUPPOSED to be the FOTC. They literally killed interest in the sport for many casuals who are responsible for buying the majority of ppvs and from the look on these boards, is very important for certain fan bases.

Never! It never died and it never will die and it certainly won't be replaced by no damn UFC like some people thought just a year or so ago. In fact I think Boxing completely STOLE all of the UFC Thunder on top of their biggest star having his issues and is now suspended.

Only thing that dies in boxing are these artificial fans bases once their fighter loses!

I still don't get it why you think/how the sport would have benefited from Manny throwing more punches & not Mayweather? Mayweather threw more & outlanded Manny, Manny lost & has no one to blame but himself...but he's busy being a sore loser.

Kirkland's deserves his low ranking at 154 considering his long layoff. He's above only the likes of Anthony Mundine, Zaveck, Alfonso Gomez etc. Like I mentioned before, blame it on the networks for Canelo not getting the other higher ranked guys at 154lbs.

Talking about 160lbs, I don't expect Canelo to do a Broner & face a monster like GGG (#1 at 160) for his first fight at a new weight class. Rest of the guys at 160 are all on Sho (in order of their ranks- Quillin, Lee, Jermain Taylor LOL, Danny Jacobs, Geale, Sam Soliman etc)..like I said blame it on the networks. Cotto Canelo will be made IMO, we waited 5 years for PacFloyd, I'm sure we can wait a few months for this.

And lastly, ofcourse I prefer Canelo to face someone that'd actually have a chance of beating him to tomato cans. But Kirkland was no tomato can, Canelo-Kirkland was good for boxing, especially after May 2. Kirkland was the only good choice left considering all others at 154lbs were in a network war.

The sport benefits when 2 of its best give their all in a fight to see who is the better man.

I did, I only fault Canelo for not making the Cotto fight in June in MSG.

Lee and Gaele are not on SHo. Canelo is making 154 lbers fight above that rather than him fighting 160lbers at 160. He's done that a lot and I think some fans have grown tired of it.

                Canelo isn't Manny or Floyd.

Dude, Kirkland had no chance to win. His name, record and past achievements do not change that fact. Please do not act like this was a competitive fight because you found a website that ranks Kirkland 14th.

GBP didn't make the Canelo/ Kirkland fight because he was the only one out there-they did it to avoid fighting Cotto in NYC because of the optics of Canelo not being seen as "the star".

It has its moments. I wouldn't say its "dead" but it certainly isn't alive and thriving like other sports. When sponsors and advertisers would rather pay for commercial time during Golf rather than boxing, you know something is wrong!

The 2 best of our generation fought & Mayweather emerged the clear winner which no one questions (Pac's opinion doesn't matter). Do you actually want to see a rematch here?

I never said that Kirkland was a competitive fight, I said it was the best available choice thanks to the networks + a good fight to happen after what happened May2.

Like I said, the fight will happen this year & it will be bigger this time around. Canelo isn't avoiding Cotto, it's ridiculous to say that. Real negotiations took place but the fight couldn't happen. These guys people are scouting each other, with Cotto's people being at the Minute Maid park for CaneloKirkland. A few more months of waiting wont hurt any one of us. Canelo did the right thing of not waiting & facing Kirkland, none of these guys are getting any younger to stay inactive.

no rematch needed but I think it will happen.

No it wasn't IMO. The good fight was Cotto-in June in MSG. A fight that if he wins, he restores the luster he lost in the Floyd performance. This win didn't do that IMO because Kirkland had no real chance to win.

I didn't say or imply he was avoiding him. I stated specifically his unwillingness to face Cotto in NYC and why he IMO he didn't want to. There is no guarantee Cotto is next.

Does waiting a month constitute inactivity?

IMO, canelo v cotto on HBO in June would have been much better for fans and the sport.
