u're way of thinking says i have to leave my deep 130 division just to fight the one money guy at 135...no thanks..at the end of the day it is a business..and the commissions must respect that...nothing is wrong with a cw if both guys can make it easy...but that is not the case 90% of the time today....making fighters fight at their natural weights would be the greatest thing for boxing..PERIODA better idea would be to abolish catchweights, and enforce better drug testing.
We have 17 divisions today, so find one you like, and stay there.
If YOUR body type does not fit perfectly at THE TOP of your desired division, then hard-fkn-luck for you...... FIT IN, and do whatever you have to do to perform effectively at your chosen weight, take the time to adapt, whatever...... but, DO NOT expect somebody else to accomodate you by diminishing their effectiveness.
If you kill yourself to make weight, then you will pay for it eventually.
The only way this is not fair, is when fighters use supplements (furosemide, or whatever) to make the weight illegally.
NO catchweights, and better drug testing..... problem solved.
The only two reasons why a fighter would require a catchweight is because..... he is not good enough to compete with his opponent because of size disadvantage (so, go back to your own division, and stay there, exhibition matches suck anyways)...... or, you are attempting to drain your opponent to get an unfair advantage (like Marquez just admitted that he did with Mayweather - the solution is the same..... go back to your own division, and stay there, exhibition matches suck anyways).Comment

he lost to Prescott last year, although the awful judges gave it to him since he had just signed with HaymonComment

Again with this ****** talking point. Pac won 6 divisional titles before asking for his first CW, multiple wins over 1st ballot HOFs. Who else has done that? Nobody. Not to mention Cotto was a lot better than Porter, plus Pac never imposed a fcuking rehydration limit.Comment

If Broner-Porter didn't end up being the stage for one of the five NBC primetime TV broadcasts (the biggest stage, outside of Showtime PPV, in the PBC basket of opportunities), I would've agreed with you (just this Saturday afternoon, PBC took the show to basically Omar Figueroa's backyard; for one of the Saturday afternoon shows, I see no issue with taking the fight to Cincinatti or Cleveland, specifically for that hometown energy).Haymon and Co have shown they are willing to take a loss for the sake of long-term gain. The Las Vegas crowd for the 1st PBC was awful until the last third of the Guerrero-Thurman fight. Having a good crowd enhances the product and having a Ohio/Boxing savy crowd will help build the atmosphere.
That isn't the case here; even with the sorry crowd for most of the first PBC event, the event's specter was greatly improved by being hosted at the MGM Grand, arguably boxing's biggest and grandest stage.
The five primetime NBC shows aren't for a boxing savvy crowd; those shows are for the sports fan and casual boxing fan, hoping to bring those fans into the boxing fold.
For a general sports fan, the fight looks bigger coming from the MGM Grand, rather than US Bank Arena(Cincinnati).Comment

Good fight! I can see Broner outboxing Porter, or Broner not being active enough and Porter outworking him. The cw is kinda scary for Porter because he can barely make 147 and he is shredded. He may have to lose muscle to make the weight.Comment

Dont know what you mean, and dont know how you came to that conclusion from my post?u're way of thinking says i have to leave my deep 130 division just to fight the one money guy at 135...no thanks..at the end of the day it is a business..and the commissions must respect that...nothing is wrong with a cw if both guys can make it easy...but that is not the case 90% of the time today....making fighters fight at their natural weights would be the greatest thing for boxing..PERIOD
If you fight at 130..... then fight at 130, no problem.
If you want to move to 135, then MOVE to 135..... do WHATEVER is required to enable you to perform effectively at that weight. Change your diet/training, take lower-level fights to acclimatise to the weight, whatever..... but if you were to proposition a 135lb'er for a boxing match, and then insist that he should compromise himself to accomodate little-old-you...... than you are admitting that you are not good enough to compete against him fairly, so you should go back down to 130.
A lot of great fighters went up and beat the champion as the smaller man.
That is the true definition of P4P.
Others compromised their opponent, diminishing their own achievements.
That is clearly NOT P4P !Comment
