Everyone complains about hugging and holding in the ring...

I just will never get why people feel sorry for inferior fighters, either you can take care of business in the ring or you can't.
I don't know how many totally clean matches of boxing I have watched in the last two decades but none stick out.
Getting dirty is part of boxing, that is the nature of the game. They are fighting **** is going to happen, a fighter can either let **** go down or try and do something about it. I always want to see a guy try and do something about it.
That was what made Wlad-Povetkin so bad for example, Wlad held a lot but Povetkin both allowed it to happen and failed to work while wildly charging in basically forcing a clinch.
Also if a guy is reaching to clinch like Wlad does a bunch why can't guy figure that out and come in with an uppercut. If a guy is reaching out to grab you they are super vulnerable, it is not like that can't be worked on in the gym.Comment

Pacquiao can't fight inside to save his life. He doesn't know how to react to getting held, he immediately looks at the ref for help, doesn't even attempt at punching. This is so obvious and Floyd took advantage of this flaw. When ever Pac got too close, he tied him up and people didn't like this. Try tying up Mayweather and see what happens. Maidana tried buy Mayweather pushed him off most times, or slithered away. Pac can't do this.Comment

But like you stated, most fighters are limited. They're trained to swing wildly from the outside, and when they get inside, they forget that defense is also part of game which will allow them to continue fighting and improving their chances of winning.
Usually when fighters clinch the ref steps in to break them up so that the action can continue.
