Its because a lot of fighters do not have any skill fighting on the inside. They get marketed as great fighters because of KO's and power when in reality they are not very good in a number of areas.

So you are making the victim the bad person? The ref is supposed to abide by the rules and deduct points for excessive clinching, a fighter who is being a good sportsman and abiding by the rules shouldn't have to resort to dirty retaliation tactics.

The thread is right though, if a guy is fighting dirty beating him in a totally clean fashion is a damn hard trick. You have to at least have the ability to get down and dirty in boxing. Also it is not like this is something new, in boxing if an opponent is willing to take the fight to places you don't want to go you have major issues, if the guy is anywhere close to as talented.

Excessive holding/clinching is illegal and the problem is its not being enforced by refs. Therefore certain fighters are doing it more and more because they know there's no repercussion to it. Yet the minute the fighter being held fouls back there's a stern warning and/or point deduction.

Mayweather and Hopkins are the only two that the refs don't penalize for this foul

The thing I noticed is Floyds inside game never showed up on Fight night with Pac, people were bragging about his inside game, I was one of them, but everytime Pac came in close he clinched. I kept saying wtf happened to his inside game? I thought he would try and slip and throw that uppercut he usually does, but he just tied up each time.

Has a ref ever DQ someone for excessive clinching or taking points? Clinching for me should just be used as a way to buy time when you are hurt bad, thats the only time I think clinching is okay, if a fighter is hurt he should try and clinch, but if you are not hurt and you keep hitting and clinching like Wlad Klitschko thats wrong and should not be allowed in the sport.

Yup. Sergio Martinez got a point deducted for accidental rabbit punching after Cintron was constantly bending his head below the waist and holding.
