Canelo beat Kirkland because he is a skillful brawler. He thinks in there, looks for openings to land his bombs if they are there but also creates openings by the combinations he throws.

Wolfe can motivate Kirkland and get him to be in monster shape but she is not exactly a technical specialist. Which is where James needs to improve if he is ever going to be more than just a tough caveman type of fighter.

Forget the trainers, an active Kirkland would have done much better.

Kirkland was coming off a 17 month lay off and had only fought twice in last 3 years.

He also had to drop over 50 pounds to make weight for this fight. He did not have the slightest chance.

I agree with what you said. Wolfe would have made no difference. I am sure Kirkland gave the matter careful thought before changing trainers. Kirkland seemed to be in great shape judging by the number of hard punches he threw. I don't see how Kirkland could have tried any harder to win or been more courageous. Kirkland must be insulted when people tell him he can only be a good fighter if he is trained by Wolfe and no one else. I admired Kirkland after the fight for making no excuses and giving Canelo full credit for his loss.
