It's bad enough that this was a horrid mismatch but then the thread title, I've been here since 2006 and that's got to be the most disturbing thread title.
Canelo saves boxing!!

Now you have a fight that likely had more action in 3 rounds than Mayweather has had in his last two fights total. The thing is, casuals want to see exciting fights, this isn't rocket science. I desperately wish casual fans would do 5 million pay-per-view buys for fights like tonight's. I really wish they could see exciting fights, instead of tuning in once in a blue moon for big name fights, that usually never deliver.Comment

Doesn't matter. Same thing can be said for the ginger. It's Canelo. The flat-footed, slow, plodding, no defense, suspect chin some people make him out to be. Also was on a long layoff. One more thing, you already said that in another thread. Tell me something I haven't seen.Comment

Dude, you're acting like Kirkland is some kind of green up and coming fighter, with 10-1 record or something. Yes, everyone knows Kirkland has a shaky chin, but he is also a dangerous opponent with good conditioning, pressure, and good power. This is his selling point. But, don't act like this guy is a pushover. The fight was staged on the basis that it could end at any moment in the fight, and that either guy could be knocked out. It was staged on the basis of excitement.Comment

That is not good boxing. It's totally irresponsible as a trainer to have your fighter fight the way Kirkland did tonight. You can be skillful, defensively responsible and exciting like Chavez Sr, Duran, Barerra and Morales and still have a long, successful career.
There is a difference between a great brawl and a beat down like this that will cut his career short and damage him mentally.Comment

I looked at this fight as a litmus test for Canelo and Kirkland. Canelo is touted as the next potential mega Mexican star, who is yet untested. Kirkland is known as a tough fighter who has shown vulnerability, but is still feared for his relentless style and power. Canelo was tested out of the gate, but stepped up and crushed his opponent. After that drivel last week, I feel some satisfaction in seeing tonight's fight.Comment

This fight was nothing more than to get the hype train rolling again. They made this fight to make Canelo look like some big bad knockout artist. This fight does nothing for canelos career. You learn nothing from an easy beat down like this. Cotto is a whole nother animal from kirkland especially the cotto that is with Freddie roach.Comment
