Does HBO have anything to do with the TruTV cards?

I didn't even know TruTV was going to be having boxing cards until last night, is there a deal in place for Top Rank/TruTV to continue putting on cards? Is Top Rank (and TruTV) paying for all of this or is HBO "helping out?"

I hope they continue this, this is a smart business decision by TR/HBO and Haymon basically forced their hand as far as putting boxing on free tv. This could be a HUGE success for boxing and TR/HBO IF they put on solid fights.

They have a platform where they can really advertise big HBO fights/fighters, etc, and attract a lot of fans. (Just like Haymon) But they have to put on meaningful main events.

This will be very disappointing if they put on fights like Arreola-Truck Driver. Two sloppy heavyweights in a "entertainment" fight. Last night on FNF, for example, that was a fun main event to watch but the best FNF broadcasts are the "meaningful" ones where there's a prospect stepping up against a grisly veteran looking to get back in the title picture, etc. Last nights FNF card was merely an "entertainment" card for people with nothing to do on Friday Night.

That's what TR has to do here. IMO. I was a bit disappointed with last nights card, which is why I'm making this thread. I just watched it and Glen Tapia is broken goods, at this point. But it was the first card so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I was also disappointed with Seanie Monahan on the undercard.

Some meaningful main events and true TR prospects on the undercard such as Mekhontsev, Gvodzyk, and Verdejo (Is Julian Rodriguez with TR?) and this thing will be great for boxing fans

I think this is like the second or third one so far. They announced on the Crawford fight card, not sure about an affiliation but they definitely mentioned it. Probably because TR boxers also fight on HBO so it helps to build exposure I guess.

      A few things:

Ive always been a TruTV fan since way back when so I have a little soft spot for them and I am happy that their productions and cards have been high end, at least in my (possibly biased) opinion.

That's pretty much it. I'm glad there's more boxing on another basic cable channel.

I also noticed that TruTV was using some of the graphics we see on HBO fights. They definitely have something to do with it.

I don't know the answer but I'm impressed that TruTv puts on reasonably entertaining boxing events. I was so disappointed when they started creating their own fake/scripted reality shows but now with boxing and Impractical Jokers, I'm loving me some TruTV.

The series, which will have eight cards this year, was announced as being "in association with Turner Sports and HBO Sports." Turner and HBO are sister Time Warner companies. HBO, which has a close relationship with Top Rank, will help market the series, and the first three cards, on May 1, May 8 and May 15, will take place on the eve of major fights HBO is involved in. Turner Sports, which will also assist in marketing, is consulting on the production of the series and will, along with Top Rank, provide the broadcast team, which has not been announced yet.

I think it's affiliated with Arum. Really smart marketing. They have commercials for fights all throughout the nba playoffs on TNT, which I believe TruTv is in the same family of networks. I wouldn't be surprised if they're getting similar ratings to Spike's PBC cards.

ya this is why i dont get why people want haymon to fail they are not seeing the big picture. it will keep forcing the hand of all these promoters and the winners are the fans as were going to get more and more and more good cards on regular tv. its one thing for these promoters to put fights on but its another when they are forced to put legit good cards on free tv
