You win boxing matches, it's a sport after all, by winning...you guessed it! Points. The better at winning these elusive points, the better boxer you are. That's how the sport of boxing works.

I'm surprised you've been watching boxing since at least 2004 and habit learnt that boxing is fought on a points system. Most people pick that up the first time they hear the scores i.e. the 'points' announced at the end of a fight.

Pac could always just have paid street fights i guess, see Kimbo Slice, if he didn't want to worry about points. He's been fighting under a points system his entire career though, so i'm sure he's aware of it.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that even Pacquiao himself has won fights on these things called points.

Mayweather used distance, disrupted Pacquiao's offense with counters and his own offense, slid punches, and when all else failed executed a well timed clinch. I think the term you use for that is boxing.
