Is Chris Algieri an elite fighter or a bum?

Danny Garcia: outboxed by Herrera and Peterson. Algeri is more gifted than both of those guys and even though I'm a Garcia fan he will always struggle against a genuine boxer who knows how to use his jab. But if Garcia lands with his left hook you never know.
Broner: his power didn't transition into the weight classes of 140/147 so while he has decent pop his power shouldn't be a problem. Also, his boxing skills are way overrated he's actually better when he tries to engage because he just isn't that good of a boxer and lacks movement because he's so damn stationary. Algieri could box circles around him.
Peterson: he's not a great boxer and he has hardly any pop. I think this would be a more close fight but again Algieri has the superior boxing ability.
Rios: need I say more?
Guerrero: he's a tough competitor who could only wear Algieri down through a war of attrition, he doesn't have that KO power. Algieri would be able to outbox him and clinch a decision as long as he can stay on the outside and avoid getting roughed up on the inside by clinching whenever Guererro gets close to tie him up thereby forcing him to reset.
Porter: perhaps I'm being harsh on him after the Brook fight where he continuously smothered his own work. But I think Algieri could fustrate Porter with his movement and superior jab which would allow him to control the range of the fight as Brook did which then enduce the wild jumping that Porter did. Porter has a chance due to his power and output but I would favour Algieri. Good fight.
Bradley: this was perhaps the harshest. I'm a really big fan of Bradley and believe he is the best 147er after Floyd and Pacquiao but recently he's just been fighting dumb. He's not been using his boxing ability enough and seems to want to make a point, he still seems like he's in an identity crisis after his win by robbery against Pacquiao. To be honest I'll probably change my opinion and go with Bradley on this because he can adjust and fight both ways I guess it was my fustration with him speaking.
So there you go, there's why Algieri could beat these guys. And notice how I used the word could. I also used it in my Orginal post. I'm not saying it's 100% guaranteed but he could most definitely beat these guys because of his boxing ability. It's just whether he can take the shot or not.Last edited by arizashakes; 05-08-2015, 03:52 AM.Comment

Yeah I agree. If labels are going to be handed out they should be more varied than elite - bum. I see what the point is though with Algieri because he is quite hard to determine the class of fighter he is. He is one of those guys that is at the world level and can hang in there, but is not an A level guy if you get me. He is a good fighter because he has got to where he is, that has to be given, but just because he is nowhere near the pinnacle does not make him a bum.Comment

Ranked #3 at JWW by TBRB.
Realistically he's a top 5 contender at this point in time with a difficult style for a lot of the guys around him to deal with. Seeing how badly Danny struggled with Herrera and Peterson I think Algieri might beat him.Comment

now that Algieri got Kane out of the cage as his trainer I am interested to see the game plan put together by John David Jackson. Khan has been labelled as a guy with a weak chin, but Algieri isn't know for his power.
I think the corners will play a big role, and if Khan overlooks algieri for his payday with mayweather.
as for bum or elite. He is in between, but a few wins or a few loses changes that.Comment

Lol at ppl saying "world class." He got whitewashed by the only "elite" fighter he has faced. So while I wouldn't call him a "bum," what's the next level above one....Comment

Algieri would be a difficult matchup for anyone not named Floyd or Pacman
If Khan overlooks him he will pay the price
We havent seen Khan in the ring with someone with a good jab in a long time..Comment
