  • Burns can upset Figueroa?

I can't help but recall how Jerry Belmontes outboxed him. A much smaller, weaker, very basic boxer.

I keep seeing 6/1 odds (I'll have a little flutter on that) and people picking Figueroa with ease but I am not so sure. This kid has probably the worst defense in boxing, slow feet, no real jab. He can't even slip or parry a jab he just blocks it with his face.
This ain't an easy fight, sorry.

I know Burns was never that good and maybe on the slide (I just think he just wasn't that to begin with)

Look at his resume; Jerry Belmontes - An inflated super featherweight journeyman/gatekeeper who gave him fits.
Arakawa = Just a fun to watch journeyman.
Daniel Estrada - A fringe contender? Kevin Mitchell just beat the **** out of him with practically one hand.

He has fought absolutely nobody at all. Not even one solid top 20 fighter.
Say whatever about Burns the guys been in with Katsidis, Crawford, Gonzalez, Rocky Martinez, Zlatican. The fighters he was beating on the domestic scene are better than anything Figueroa has fought.
I am serious when I say the guys he has beaten are no better than Nicky Cook, Mitchell and so on.

I can't shake that Belmontes fight and stop thinking Burns is a bigger, better, far more experienced version with a little bit more pop. I just don't see why Burns isn't being given a shot here.

Figueroa is just a wreckless kid with some pop. He has no real skills.

If Burns were at his peak I'd pick him in an upset. But he's been on the downslide for awhile now and I can't pick him in a PBC fight in Figueroa's home state.

That's what sticks out to me as well. He didnt even look that good beating estrada and then you see kevin just obliterate the guy. I can see Ricky beating him and getting robbed.

Younger Burns maybe had a chance, but hes shot as far as I'm concerned.

If Figueroa has nothing else he has heart and power. I cant see Burns lasting the 12.

Burns has looked terrible in his last four fights. Figueroa has looked terrible forever.

You might be right OP but it's Texas and Burns isn't knocking him out.

Figueroa is much better at light welterweight. He was way too big for lightweight just like Terence Crawford. Burns is going to get punished.

I don't see Burns beating Figueroa. Burns can box but I don't think he can take Figueroas power.

If you say that Figueroa was looking bad against Belmontes and Estrada, before he fought Belmontes he had a long layoff. His hands were so bad after the Arakawa fight he was close to be retired. He should have fought Alvarez on the Canelo-Angulo undercard but broke his land in the last sparring session. Does anyone think he was at his best going in the fight? Anyone would be worried about punching another dude with 8oz gloves after that...
Estrada made a good fight but he Figueroa beat the ***** out of him. The ringdoctor actually recommended a stoppage before the round Estrada got knocked out. I don't really think you can make a comparison of this fight to Mitchell-Estrada. I don't get how that fight was sanctioned as an eliminator...

Figueroa is another Leo Santa Cruz waiting to happen. Specifically designed to appeal to the mexican fan base for revenue purposes, and lacking substance all at the same time.

Kid Figueroa is good but young... He also has a long reach (like Floyd's). He switched to Winning gloves for a proper hands protection.
