Roy Jones: How Good Was He?

What are your thoughts? Was Roy Jones one of the most naturally talented fighters ever, or was he a steroids-taking hypejob who avoided his biggest challenges?

In his prime I'd pick him over almost everyone at Middle/Super Middle and only the very best LHWs could hang with him like Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Joey Maxim, Michael Spinks, John Conteh pretty incredible company if you ask me.

Good but not as good as Joe Calzaghe.

Most gifted fighter I've ever seen. He was must-see boxing through most of the 90's. Personally, him being knocked out by Tarver was more devastating than Tyson.

H2H there aren't many guys in history you could pick over a prime Roy Jones.

People say Roy was only reflexes and speed, and that he didn't have great skill or technique. That's wrong.

I'm currently watching the first Tarver fight, and saw Roy make adjustments in the third round, after losing (IMO, anyway) the first two rounds. That shows a good ring IQ.

Why am I using this particular fight, you may ask? Because Roy was coming down from HW, lost a lot of weight, and his speed and reflexes were faded by then.

he was good and that was about it. Once his reflexes left he turned into straight bum status.

Look at mayweather he won all his early fights off reflexes and speed like jones but when those things started to fade he still had the skills to win and jones didnt.

imagine if jones never had those gifts to begin with he would have never been anything.

Rios is jones jr but just of the opposite side of the specturm, he just has power and relentlessness.

what happens when rios loses his advantage of power over his oppenent? same **** that happened to jones when he lost his reflexes and speed against his oppenents.

The Greatest Pure Athlete Boxing Has Ever Seen!

I'm a James Toney fan by the way so after he beat James Toney I held a Grudge against Jones for Years but no doubt looking back he is the greatest Athlete I ever seen to Put on a Pair Of Gloves IMO
