well, the word usually gets out when things like that happen with bigger name fighters. sparring parteners that drop good fighters love to talk.

Hey Ice I wanted to get your opinion of Pedro Fernandez as a fighter when he was an amatuer and what u think of him as a writer. I've always wanted to get your thoughts on him, and since he is real high on Andre, and some one already brought him up on this thread, I thought it would be a good time to ask.

I dont really read Pedro's stuff too often.... the few times I read him I thought he was pretty mean spirited and vicious against his subjects. As a boxer i never heard of him back in the 80's when I was also an amateur and I never saw his name in the amateur magazines etc... I am told by a guy up in his area San Francisco-Oakland that Pedro was an average local amateur

Yeah I notice that Pedro tends to be cynical and negative most of the time, he also brags about how he won 4 golden glove tourneys and how he stopped Paul Nave with a body shot. Well anyways, thanx for the info.Originally posted by ICEMAN JOHN SCULLYI dont really read Pedro's stuff too often.... the few times I read him I thought he was pretty mean spirited and vicious against his subjects. well. He won 4 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA GG titles. One of them was a novice title but in any event, winning four "northern california titles" is not exactly theharest thing to do.. northern cali is not exaclty the boxing hotbed of this country. its misleading at best the way he puts it up onhis site. I mean, it isnt even a STATE titleComment

Andre Ward is good but his glass jaw wont let him make it to the top. Hes already been rocked badly and floored by 2 bums.Comment

Yeah I agree. The ONE thing I like about Pedro and this has nothing to do with his amatuer career, is that he seems to have the fighters best interest in mind while writing some of his articles, like in the Yory Boy Campas case.Originally posted by ICEMAN JOHN SCULLYwell. He is one of the few journalists left that goes after the corrupt elements in boxing. I have to respect that.Last edited by ChrististheAnswer2; 03-28-2006, 10:39 PM.Comment

my boy Vanes Martirosyan was on the same Olympic team with Andre in 2004 Athens. He says about the same as all of you, great speed and power, but the chin might not hold up in the future.
Still a great prospect to watch in my opinion, he did bring home the GOLD for US.Comment

I totally agree, I wish Andre all the best, cause he seems like a real good guy. That being said, I was in the Rose Garden for the Mayweather-Mitchell fight and Andre fought on the undercard and he got dropped with a real good uppercut that he didn't see and went down hard.Originally posted by VanesBoxingmy boy Vanes Martirosyan was on the same Olympic team with Andre in 2004 Athens.
