It is laughable that you even posted this, have you ever watched a Mayweather fight below 147 lbs? I wanted Manny to win but anyone with the least bit of boxing knowledge knew Floyd would win yesterday. Floyd walked Shane Mosley down, took out a bigger, younger, hard hitting fighter in Canelo and managed to keep Manny in the centre of the ring at distance.

When he fought Hatton he beat Hatton on the inside and out, he beat Marquez at his own game. What you have said makes no sense, after Ray Robinson went something like 128-1 in fights why did everyone not just start fighting like Robinson?

When Tyson started destroying people in the 90's why didn't a young Lennox Lewis decide to train and learn to fight like the Tyson that was brutalising heavyweights? When Pernell Whittaker embarrassed Chavez (yes the robbery) why didn't every young fighter just develop Whittakers upperbody movement?

Remember when Roy Jones Jr was untouchable for years, people could hardly lay a finger on him. Why is there not a generation now that fights exactly like Roy Jones Jr?

Mayweather didn't run yesterday, boxing off the backfoot isn't running. Khan Vs. Maidana late is running. Have you never heard of Willie Pep, Nicolino Locche. Hell Bernard Hopkins has a very similar outlook on boxing as Floyd. The most times goes on the more people will look at Floyd are realise how good he is. And this is coming from a guy that really wanted Manny to win.
I am not discrediting his boxing ability. I am criticizing his very conservative approach to boxing in general. Floyd has a cerebral boxing mind along with having ATG form.

Of course I have watched Floyds fights above and below 147. The only fights that have established his influence as the recognizable best of the best like Ali beating Foreman and Liston or Jones beating Toney and Hopkins is his wins over Oscar and Pacquiao. Both have catapulted his resume into a higher echelon then every other person he fought.

Floyd knocked out Hatton because Hatton persisted to cut off the ring to catch Floyd all night. Floyd, the younger bigger stronger better counter puncher beating an older smaller less skilled counter puncher in Marquez is not that impressive. It's expected. Robinson didn't "fight smart" he stayed to true to boxing a boxing match like it was meant to be. Ali's hero coming up was always Robinson and had said plenty of times he crafted his style emulating Robinsons foot work and work rate. A generations ATG is likely to largely influence the next generations ATG because of the preceding ATG's high success rate in the ring. Floyds influence is defined as doing as little punching as possible to win the round while doing everything possible to avoid exchanges.

Because Lennox is a grown @ss man who was essentially Tyson's equal in professional terms. That's like saying Khan would want to start fighting like Pacquiao and break down his fundamentals evolving his style to something that is a competitor to him. Because Pernell didn't define the state of boxing and his performances while legendary aren't what you call influential to the extent of the past, present and current ATG's

Roy Jones style was rooted to his athleticism, just like Hamed and just like Pacquiao. It's not Floyd's specific style of punching and blocking that I criticize, it's his over the top conservative approach. Unlike those of Jones, Pacquiao and Hamed. What I am saying is a future reminiscent of Mayweather for the wrong reasons. A style emulated on avoiding fighting and conserving everything.

Mayweather looked sensational for Mayweather last night but analyzing the substance of what it took to win these fights and what he risks is what is important and what should count. And it's different when your over 40 keeping a not so popular division alive with your name alone. I guarantee if Hopkins was Floyd on that platform of greatness in the biggest fight ever he would have put out. Much like he did with Trinidad.
