Cotto has looked great recently, but I am beginning to question if Roach can devise an adequate gameplan if this fight actually occurred.
Cotto rematch please

cottos is the best bet definitely agree. maidana was too unpredictable the first fight once floyd fought him again he knew how to deal with him. cotto is defently a better fighter with roach compared to diaz who had him moving to much. i always thought cotto had a better style than pac for floyd last night proved it. if no cotto dont really feel anybody else that can really pressure floyd all night (cotto cant really either but is pretty good at cutting off the ring). as much as i hate to say it cuz i hate the scumbag margarito would have given floyd hell.Comment

The first was the quality of Cotto's footwork in cornering Floyd and cutting off his escape routes. There was a really significant moment in the 2nd (I think) where Floyd had realised Cotto was doing this and he tried to just push his way back to centre-ring with his shoulder. Cotto dipped his shoulder, didn't let Floyd out, and you could see Floyd just accept that he was going to have to fight this guy off the ropes.
The second was that Cotto never overstayed his welcome when he got Floyd on the ropes. I remember people slating Cotto for not throwing more in those situations but what he did was perfect. He went up and down the body with combinations and reset as soon as he'd gotten what he wanted. So many fighters either smother their work, or tire and let Floyd score the most telling punches of the exchange in those situations.
Obviously Cotto's excellent jab laid the basis for a lot of this, but you could see Diaz's fingerprints all over it. You could see the influence of a coach who thought about winning fights in terms of individual rounds and exchanges. Roach doesn't think like that, Roach thinks about winning fights which is a different mentality.
Despite all this though, I don't think Cotto would do better in a rematch. Even if he was in better shape, Floyd would clinch him when he got backed onto the ropes this time around and would reclaim the centre of the ring that way. In the centre of the ring Floyd would score too easily and Cotto wouldn't get him on the ropes enough to swing things back in his favour. That's how I'd see it anyway.Comment

just saw on twitter paulie still gives cotto the best shot beside amir at beating floyd. i know paulie does seem to favor cotto alot but he did break down last night to a T. if khan really cant fight in september cotto vs mayweather for 160 lb title would be good. wont do as much as the first fight but would defently do over 1 milComment
