Comments Thread For: Daily Bread Mailbag: Mayweather-Pacquiao Edition

A new mailbag from Stephen "Breadman" Edwards on the eve of the most lucrative fight in boxing history, as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao collide for the WBO/WBC/WBA welterweight titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

What's good, Breadman? I am sorely missing your ********** columns ... did you stop writing there? If so, where else can I find your wisdom? Was hoping for a post-fight analysis for the Klitschko-Jennings fight and a pre-fight analysis for May-Pac ... geez, bud, I am looking several times a day to find your column there to no avail. The site is not the same without you ...

Ali is one of the greatest of all time and I have the utmost respect for him as a man and a fighter. However, the worship of Ali is getting out of hand. Floyd is getting criticized for being critical of Ali, but Ali was critical of others that came before him. Ali did not always have great things to say about the the great Joe Louis, and others. Also, Ali espoused racist, ****phobic, and misogynistic rhetoric on numerous occasions. He was also a shameless philanderer, despite prohibitions of such behavior in Islam. And while we're at it, he never said anything opposing the Vietnam War until he was drafted himself. His refusal to serve was an act of self-preservation, and only became a political/social statement later. I know that pointing these things is down-right sacrilegious, but they're true. Muhamed Ali was human and there's nothing wring with being realistic about that. To me at least, seeing him as a fallible human doesn't diminish my appreciation of Ali. Mayweather is very narcissistic, we all know this. So, why is it shocking when he devalues those who have greater status than he? Everyone should stop being so freaking sensitive about how Floyd talks about Ali or anyone else.

Disheartening but Breadman knows his stuff. Though the fact he called Bradley a "slapper" made me chuckle a bit.

Here's hoping you're wrong, Breadman. I doubt you will be but Pac winning would be better for boxing. When we look back at the face of boxing for this generation, Floyd makes for a piss-poor poster boy.

          Anyway, I'm out.

I, too, am disgusted by the ignorance of mainstream sports journalists when it comes to boxing.

They aren't knowledgeable about the fight game yet act like they are experts. The sad thing is that they get away with it, we as a society seem to have stopped demanding high quality in our media.

Typical ignorance about Ali....There is no excuse because there are tapes of Ali with Joe Louis ok? Watch how Ali and Louis interact and then tell me about Ali's "disrespect" towards Louis. You are misguided on Ali's decision to not fight as well. Take heart....every idiot reporter except Cosell and a few others gave Ali unmerciful **** for his stand...you would not be the minority opinion back then my friend. Stop trying to revisit and reshape history. Ali was about as falible as they come but he was special and broke the mold...To put things in perspective looking at Pac's task today he is recognized as a two to one underdog when all the money is in? maybe 3 to one.... Ali was at times 8 to 1 and still came through, sit on that a moment.

I'm not reshaping history, and I believe that I alluded to my great respect for the man. I'm just being realistic about him. I'm sorry if my assessment of the facts doesn't fit your narrative, but that doesn't make me ignorant. I just have a different opinion than you. So stop being a ho about it. Now sit on this for a minute.
