  • Comments Thread For: Chagaev Will Defend on June 27, Browne Comes Next

If anything, former WBA heavyweight king Ruslan Chagaev (33-2-1, 20 KOs), who is also the reigning WBA “regular” titleholder, is okay and ready to defend his title despite an ongoing tension and court issue with Team Fres Oquendo, who was defeated by Chagaev, 36, under some controversial circumstances in July 2014.

According to Chagaev’s promoter Timur Du****ev of the Terek Boxing, Chagaev will fight next on June 27 in Germany in the optional defense of his belt against an ever dangerous TBA. And WBA #4 ranked Australian Lucas Browne (22-0, 19 KOs) will be just after that – either in Moscow or Grozny.

with his track record of tough defences (matt skelton & carl drumond) I'm sure it will someone tough. The regular belt is a joke. It is time the writers stop saying it's a title... tell it like it is

Chagaev is only 36 but fights like he's 50 ever since the hepatitis. Sad story and all but I don't know how he hangs around as any "champion".

I don't regard this as a championship fight, could you even put Chag in the top 10 at HW?

In shape top 5. In his present condition and previous fight performance vs Oquendo, absolutely NO. he just brought in Pedro Diaz. Diaz walked out of a Solis camp because the fat bastard would not or could not get into shape, hopefully with Diaz kicking Ruslan's ass he is working hard on his conditioning.

He has looked pretty bad since the Wlad fight, I mean he landed between 9-13 punches total by my count before being stopped on his stool and hasn't done much of note since.

He did well against Povetkin too, taking possibly six rounds, unfortunately with a few even rounds that night. But yes you are right he hasn't looked good in a long while, all stamina and conditioning related mainly.

Of course not. That's completely ludicrous.

No f'ing way. Not at all.

You have guys like Wladimir, Povetkin, Fury, Wilder, Pulev, Takam, Stiverne, Arreola, Jennings, Glazkov, Perez, Joshua, H.Fury who would all beat Chagaev.

Reality is, even in his prime, he wasn't very good and barely has any good wins ever and certainly not since he lost to Wlad.

Ok so Chagaev is about the same level as Charr and Thompson right who are both all a level below Hughie, Joshua and Arreola ?

their is just no discussing eastern euro fighters with you.

I don't even think Glazkov beats Chagaev, over a ten round fight I'm absolutely certain he doesn't even in his current condition. Note where I said 'in shape'.

Chagaev against Valuev was a clear and decisive victory over the behemoth, against Povetkin it could be said he matched him equally all the way. Are we gonna deny his undeniable skill and talent for the entire thread or just right now to suit an agenda ie under playing Wladimir's victories over the likes of Thompson and Chagaev, by attempting to make them appear more ordinary and basic skilled like somebody such as Del Chisora ? Your agenda is as transparent as it is in all your comments and threads.
