It's loma's mandatory. His team enforced it and at least Gamalier has won 17 fights in a row. I'm sure Loma didn't want to get stripped. Let's see who he fights next

Loma's opponent choice already has it's threads where he is criticized. Moreover, everyone knows Loma will fight anyone. LSC doesn't warrant that same admiration and belief.

Pinyo or whatever his name was his mandatory too, he didn't need to fight another mandatory.

Gamalier will box Leo's ears off. He is not at Lomo's level but he has very sound boxing skills.

              1) Lomachenko has only four pro bouts, and it does matter. He needs these type of fights to improve as a professional boxer.

              2) He has already faced two good fighters, Salido and Russell Jr. These two are better than anyone on Santa Cruz resume.

              3) Rodriguez had a full training camp whereas Cayetano has one week to prepare for his fight.

There is, however, not much difference between Rodriguez and Cayetano. Rodriguez is a third-tier fighter with a padded record. He failed to impress against Orlando Cruz - someone you are supposed to dominate if you want to be taken seriously. Lomachenko deserves a pass for the aforementioned reasons.

Fans using sanctioning organizations' rankings to justify a fight make me laugh though. These rankings are based mostly on the power of your promoter and your popularity or potential popularity. You basically have to pay to get ranked. Rodriguez is promoted by Top Rank, of course he was going to be highly ranked by the WBO. A few defenses of the coveted WBO NABO title against poor opposition... and he became number 1.

Apparently Piripinyo was rated #1 but not officially mandatory. Once Lomachenko got a spot on the Pac-May card the P.O.S. WBO couldn't help their nepotism by installing a Puerto Rican as mandatory and forcing him as the opponent.

                  7 of Gamalier Rodriguez's last 15 opponents had 0 wins or 1 win, .

                  Gamalier Rodriguez = #1 Contender doe, .

Leo Santa Cruz's last opponent, Jesus Ruiz had 1 opponent in his last 15 fights with 0 wins or 1 win.

                  Jesus Ruiz = Bum.

Idgaf about no damn record like all these clowns on here.

It's about who you've fought. Ruiz has fought some pretty solid, experienced opponents in Andres Gutierrez, Ruben Tomayo, Enrique Quevedo, Christian Esquivel, and Leonilo Miranda. On the other hand Gamalier Rodriguez's only solid opponent is Orlando Cruz.

And ironically both of Rodriguez's losses came against "bum" Mexicans, .

With all that said, this is only the first strike for Lomachenko so I see no problem with it. And the only 2 opponents of Leo Santa Cruz that I have a problem with are Manuel Roman and Jose Cayetano, which is the one on May 2nd.

both are weak choices, rodriguez is ranked a little higher than lsc opponent though. Regardless, it's amazing to see that chicken little still has at least one fan.
