Comments Thread For: Jennings: Every Time I Started To Work, He Held Me

NEW YORK — The champ returned to the Garden, and it sounded and felt like Kyiv. Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko easily outpointed a game-but-outclassed Bryant Jennings in the champion’s first fight in the United States in seven years, defending his heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision Saturday night.

Although not at his dominant best, Klitschko was in control from the outset in his 18th straight successful defence. His jab and straight right hands kept Jennings from getting inside, and the unbeaten American had little chance of winning from distance.

We have seen the Klitschko holding compilation videos. I'd really like to see a video compiled of how many clinches Jennings initiated in this fight, where Wlad was literally backpaddling and avoiding a clinch, but still got caught up with one because Jennings lunged in with his punch and his entire body, forcing a collision of bodies.

At one point, Wlad made it a point by raising both of his arms up in the air while Jennings had his arms wrapped around him.

jennings was flat out running head first into wlads armpit

wlad holds a lot but bryant was pretty deliberately trying to exaggerate it in front of the ref

not an impressive night from either guy

He has for years because he has no inside game and is scared of getting clipped on the way out. With leapai and povetkin to some extent (not 200 times) you expect it a bit with shorter fighters fighting small but he is so used to it its engrained. First thing he did vs pulev when they touched gloves was try clinch. Idk why wlad fans can't be honest and admit it stinks instead of blaming every opponent. All 70 was responsible, never wlad though. Then again its easily neutralised if you know how to take a half step back and shoot the uppercut.

Wlad also uses his entire body to smother his opponents punches, if he were fighting a guy good enough or smart enough to hop back, or laterally to create the proper range to land effective shots, maybe Wlad would lose. Wlad can't fight well on the inside, and lucky for him none of the current heavies can either.

I don't think he would be able to clinch as easy with Wilder.

I'm a big Wlad fan but sometimes when he clinches it does get annoying.

Who writes this drivel? Easily outclassed? What fight were you watching? No wonder the article isn't signed. Jennings did more to break the Clinchko code than anyone in recent memory. And if the ref were worth his salt, he'd have deducted a he!!uva lot more points than he did for all that auto-grab tripe that Wlad does every single fight. And we'd have seen a closer final score. Plus, like Jennings said, there were very few punches landing solidly on him.

I think sometimes these scribes fall into the rut of expecting the long reigning champ to overwhelm every challenge and they gear their mindset to write that way. That DID NOT HAPPEN this time. Jennings can hold his head high. Yeah, he did lose, but he gained some serious ground in the sport from what he was able to do against the seemingly impenetrable champ.
