Kovalev has a contract with HBO though, don't think Stevenson has one with Showtime.

I don't see it as unreasonable for a 50/50 split. Kovalev has three ****ing titles.
Youre misinformed. Its not A Side vs B Side...not even close

You're right, peoples champ Kovalev clearly concedes A side to Stevenson by going to his hometown, giving him 50/50 on hbo plus fat Canada ppv and gate. Will Stevenson take it?

Its a fair deal for sure but Stevenson's people are also right to want this fight on a PBC platform where it would get more money.

Fair enough, but if that's impossible due to Kovalevs HBO contract, he still has a deal on the table better than anything on Pbc. He's a free agent so if he could go back if he doesn't like what HBO is offering, but his numbers, both TV and attendance, have suffered a lot since he went off HBO.

While GYM is a big fish in the Quebec fighting pond, internationally GYM is a guppy in a school of sharks. Stevenson - Bika didn't even sell out half of the Quebec Coliseum and would have been a financial bust without Haymon's money. Separate Haymon from GYM and they go back to their little arguments and petty squabbles with Interboxe.

And yes, I do know what I am talking about and I am probably safe in saying that I am the only one here who has sat down to dinner with Yvon Michel.

Maybe it's inaccurate to say this, but I don't think that Kovalev has the impact on the Canadian PPV or the gate money that folks thinks he does. Personally, I think Stevenson-Fonfara II on Showtime/PBC brings more total money than Stevenson-Kovalev on HBO, largely because I don't think HBO is truly willing to put up all that much money for the fight.

For Chavez-Fonfara, Showtime likely put up $3.5m for that fight; most of it was likely because it was a Chavez fight, but Fonfara has now been apart of two big Showtime fight, performing well in both fights.

So, Showtime is likely going to bring money for Stevenson-Fonfara II, and the Canadian fans, having seen him fight Stevenson tough the first time (and hopefully seeing the Chavez fight), so there's going to be solid interest in the gate and PPV for the second fight.

PBC would mean CBS or NBC for a fight of this magnitude which would remove the possibility of PPV revenue from Canada. Haymon could only host this fight on Showtime and Showtime will not do the numbers that HBO would do. Whatever HBO would pay, combined with PPV revenue here in Canada would be higher than a PBC card on free TV.

You haven't answered what the 4 meaningful fights outside Beterbiev and Alavarez are, Fonfara II, ???, ???, ???,
Enjoy being a wanted free agent, for once. Kovalev has emerged as a fighter who's entertaining to watch, has three of the four belts in his possession, and just earned his first big payday with the Pascal fight.

The division's big unification fight is on the horizon, with no impediment barring either party from having their team's look for the largest payday possible. Why willing tie a hand behind your back, capping a segment of the money that the fight could generate.

The four fights (answered this in another post)

vs Fonfara II, vs Bute, vs Oosthuizen, vs Pascal(with Pascal winning 1-3 fights in the interim).

Beyond that, there are also a handful of fringe contender fights that are open for Stevenson, if you wanted me to name those too.

I see 2.9m for Chavez Fonfara, 2.5m for Chavez and 400k Fonfara. And Chavez is a top 5 ppv draw, while Stevensons TV ratings have been dire. Poor gate lately too. If Quebec had a lot of Poles, maybe Fonfara 2 does very well. Kovalev would be a 4 title unification OTOH.

Pretty sure that 70% of that money came from Canadian PPV and the Montreal live gate. would honestly like to know how much money HBO actually put into the fight pot.
