Fans always have to get involved in money discussions when one fighter is a coward. They didn't have to do that in the Bhop vs Kovalev. Fight just happened without any fuzz.
Comments Thread For: Main Events: No Interest in Stevenson-Kovalev Purse Bid

For both guys this fight is the best option financially. Kovalev can't go purse bid due to HBO contract. Why wouldn't Stevenson go HBO? He'd at least double that Bika purse, with HBO money + Canada ppv + gate?Stevenson made more than $2.5m for the Bika fight, so what are you talking about? Beyond that, why would the WBC force Chilemba(Main Events) into being mandatory challenger when his promoter already embarrassed the governing body, by pushing for an unprecedented organizational move, only yo back out on the fight twice.
If Kovalev gets $1m for the Mohammedi fight, I'll be shocked. After that, he'd basically be out of decent fights.Comment

Another case of "No, we're the A-Side"
Kovalev has a contract with HBO though, don't think Stevenson has one with Showtime.
I don't see it as unreasonable for a 50/50 split. Kovalev has three ****ing titles.Comment

duva is a complete joke why did she request a purse bid in the first place? did she hope haymon would pull outComment
-
because duva requested itNot surprising. HBO have got Duva by the **** hairs here. They have a contract for Kovalev to fight on their network and they dont want him taken away for his biggest fight due to losing bid, and they dont want to pay ****** money to compete with Uncle Al.
Still confused about why they would go for purse bids in the first thoughComment

vs Fonfara II, vs Bute, vs Oosthuizen (WBC #3), and vs Pascal. lesser fights, against Tommy Karpency(WBC #10) and Edwin Rodriguez(WBC #8) are also options.
And, if the money's right, I see Jurgen Brahmer (wba Champion) being willing to possibly travel for one of those CBS/NBC/ABC afternoon shows [Sauerland accepts the full German TV rights, and a significant chunk of the European broadcast rights, as the price to have Brahmer travel to Montreal; 1pm stateside start time still puts the fight as a primetime broadcast in Germany].
By the time that Stevenson runs through a decent number of those fights (with utter soft touches, like the Craig Baker Haiti fight thrown in), a lot of the young prospects would be ready to step up and fight:
Beterbiev, Alvarez, Thomas Williams Jr, Marcus Browne, etc.Last edited by Scipio2009; 04-23-2015, 10:54 PM.Comment

She knows boxing well enough she's psyched to be on HBO after years of not being able to get on Showtime even. See Stevenson's terrible ratings off Hbo. He's given a chance back, at 50/50 vs peoples champ, in his hometown. Will he take it?Comment

Bute, Oosthuizen not meaningful. Pascal just got destroyed, Stevenson priced himself out right before. Fonfara 2? Lol I guess that's meaningful on Showtimevs Fonfara II, vs Bute, vs Oosthuizen (WBC #3), and vs Pascal. lesser fights, against Tommy Karpency(WBC #10) and Edwin Rodriguez(WBC #8) are also options.

ya its gonna be funny when one of kovs belts force a purse bid and he cant just say noI'm guessing HBO not only don't want to lose out to the Haymon universe for the Stevenson fight but also on other fights because if Kovalev fights and defeats Stevenson then he will have a load of mandatories and most of those mandatory challengers are with Haymon and hence they will go to purse bids and Kovalev will likely be off HBO. It is a shame that the sport is so badly organized that these tv interests can prevent the best fights.Comment
