2) Other than that, for the fight to be PPV in Quebec and in Canada it must be either on Showtime or HBO. It cannot be on NBC or CBS as those stations cannot be blacked out across Canada. So to be PPV in Canada and get the best possible ratings in the US, HBO would be the logical choice.

So now Kathy Duckva walks away from a purse bid (that she engineered), and is actually turning down more money just because it might come from Haymon/PBC. She also made the ludicrous excuse that the exchange rate is not favorable!?!?

I can see both sides here.

Main Events wants it on HBO because Kovalev signed a long term deal. He's secured financially win or lose because he'll be guaranteed more fights down the line on the network. So fighting on HBO is a must for them.

But you can also see GYM's side as well. If HBO isn't willing to up the most money for the fight then why should they go over there? Especially since Adonis doesn't have a long term deal with them, or anyone it seems, and is a free agent.

For this to get resolved, HBO has to show some commitment. They have to put up some big money for this fight to please both sides. I'm think around $10M, and have them split the purse 50/50.

$10m to the fighters likely means the fight is on PPV. to generate $10m, the PPV would need to do $25m in PPV revenue.

@$50 per PPV, you'd need to generate 500k PPV buys to cover. Not impossible to do, but probably asking alot.

which kinda makes plain the conundrum; HBO isn't really committing the major dollars to Kovalev and though the fight is big, it's not really big enough moneymaker.

I'm guessing you do not follow what is happening in Russia. It was actually a perfectly valid point although it was actually irrelevant considering that the actual reason she is not going through with the purse bid is because of HBO.

Why did Stevenson get so much more hate than Kovalev for pretty much doing the same thing? Probably because most think Kovalev does want to fight Stevenson but not vice versa and also because more people actually like Kovalev than Stevenson.
