There is no reason for Stevenson to fight Kovalev on HBO for half the money he could make in a purse bid. No one would do that. If you had a chance to make twice as much money working for Company A instead of Company B, you wouldn't work for Company B simply to prove a point, in spite of the ridiculous comments you are making here. Stevenson won't either.

It all depends what HBO has offered her (and her fighter) in return for renewing. It could be longer-term security or even a signing bonus. We don't know the terms.

No, you compare what he'd make against Kovalev on HBO with what he's going to make against the next hobo he would face on PBC/Sho.

He's likely going to make more money on HBO with the bonus of 3 more belts on the line and undisputed status than fighting Bika II or Fonfara II on Sho.

How Kovalev went from pending free agency to being locked into an ironclad HBO deal, before the bid could even be called, is pretty shiesty.

And Stevenson/GYM isn't even opposed to putting the fight on HBO; they merely want to open the TV rights open to bid. If HBO backs putting the fight on PPV, they win; Duva and her team run the calculations for what to expect off of PPV, bid the fighter's take on that amount, and the fight goes to HBO PPV (fighters split the bid 50/50, with the promoters working together to maximize the revenues).

If HBO isn't willing to put up the money for PPV, they can have the fight on HBO Championship boxing; Duva figures out what the rights fee HBO offers is, and bids from that, while any other broadcaster also has the opportunity to offer up what they'd be willing to pay in the rights fee, with Yvon Michel bidding off of that.

Because you are focussing on one fight. HBO have signed Kovalev, probably for 3 fights or so, why would they allow him to fight off the network when they want to showcase him as one of their stars? As for Kovalev, it is true he can make more money from this particular fight by allowing a purse bid to go through but he signed with HBO for more than one fight, which will earn him good money. The only alternative would be signing with Haymon, which would mean having to kick out Main Events, the only company to place their faith in him. I'm guessing that such is the level of low-life on this forum that the very concept of loyalty is pretty alien.

        • The pimp can't make any big money without Kovalev.
... He could make some if he fights Pascal or Bute, but I suspect he's afraid to fight even Bute right now...
... Adonis is finished but he's acting as if he was still alive.

Unfortunately he might be able to make more money than Kovalev fighting the same standard of opponents. I mean that is why Stevenson signed with Haymon.

... Adonis signed with Haymon to duck Kovalev and to get big money, of course... But after the Bika bluff, do you think that Hayman still has any "bright plans" for the poor pimp? I don't -- I think he seeks to get rid of him...

                • if Duva is so adamant about fighting on HBO over PBC offering more money, least she can do is do 60/40 or 55/45 split in Stevenson's favor to compensate him for lost wages

                  • This thread is funny. Englishmen and Romanians arguing about which American TV channel these two should fight on.

Even without Haymon, Adonis is set.

Look at everyone GYM can pair him with.

Look at how much money there is to be made locally.
